Matt Goss’s Strictly Come Dancing appearance 9 years ago unearthed as he makes 2022 debut

Matt Goss is one of the 14 celebrities competing for the Glitterball trophy on this year's Strictly Come Dancing, but his debut in the 2022 series isn't the first time the Bros musician has hit the show's famous dancefloor.

The '80s legend, 53, who shot to fame alongside his twin brother Luke Goss, previously appeared on the festive edition of the show back in 2013 and performed alongside professional dancer Aliona Vilani.

The duo were up against Sara Cox, Rufus Hound, Rochelle Humes, Ricky Norwood and Elaine Paige.

Matt and Aliona performed the American Smooth together to Winter Wonderland and received a score of 35 from the judges – suggesting he should be pretty good this time around.

Elaine, now 74, topped the leaderboard alongside Pasha Kovalev, with the duo scoring a near perfect 39, while Rufus, 43, and his pro dance partner Flavia Cacace followed closely behind with a score of 38.

After the audience votes were counted, Rufus and Flavia were announced as the winners, with Matt and Aliona missing out on the Glitterball trophy.

The 53 year old appears to be a big fan of the show, as he then sang White Christmas during the 2014 Christmas special.

Matt revealed live on This Morning that he will be competing on this year's series of Strictly, and the star, who splits his time between the UK and America, said he was "nervous" but also "excited" to appear on the show.

The singer told hosts Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle: “I’m excited, I’m nervous. You have the conversation and then you go about your day and you think, ‘I’ve got to dance.’ I’m eating everything that’s favourable to Spandex. I’ve got to make sure it’s alright, I’m excited.”

He added: “I’ve been almost reclusive. I come in [to the country], I work and go back to America. I just thought, ‘You know what, it’s time for me to come home, just do something completely out of my comfort zone' … I’m quite shy off stage. I just have to face all those demons and just learn.”

The 53 year old will be competing against stars such as Kym Marsh, Will Mellor and Kaye Adams. X Factor runner-up Fleur East will also be appearing, as well as a Britain's Got Talent star and an EastEnders actor.

Recording for the launch show set to take place on Wednesday 7 September, and the BBC confirmed the news, saying: “The stunning 20th series returns, bringing glamour and show-stopping dancing back to Saturday nights on BBC One – and we’re extremely excited to be able to welcome an audience back to the studio for this year’s shows.”

Motsi Mabuse, 41, Shirley Ballas, 61, and Craig Revel Horwood, 57, as well as Anton Du Beke, 56, make up this year's judging panel.
