A care home manager who worked non-stop during covid and a social worker who’s struggling to come to terms with her past got breathtaking makeovers on 10 Years Younger in 10 Days.

Viewers were blown away by the difference in nurse Alison, 48, and social worker Rachael, 55, after their appearance on Cherry Healey’s Channel 5’s makeover show last night.

Alison, a single mother, said 2020 had been the toughest year in her career as a nurse, providing constant care to her care home residents and only stopping to ‘cry,’

Rachael, who fosters young adults on top of raising her own children, admitted she didn’t know how to take care of herself after losing 9st, and looked like ‘an old witch,’ while her family said she dressed ‘inappropriately.’

Both women were amazed by the results of their makeovers that shaved years off, thanks to the tips and care of leading style, hair, skin and makeup artists.

Viewers were blown away by two successful makeovers on last night’s 10 Years Younger in 10 Days on Channel 5. Rachael, a 52-year-old social care worker, admitted she didn’t know how to take care of herself before the makeover, left, but regained her confidence after a week spent working with the experts

Alison told the show she felt defeated after a year spent supporting the people living at the care home she manages.

‘2020 was the most difficult year in my career as a nurse. The numbers we lost were incredible high,’ she said.

‘We had to sit and hold the hand sof people who were passing away that their families couldn’t come in and see them. It was awful,’ she added.

She admitted the tough year had a deep impact on her wellbeing, but also gave her a wake up call in terms of how she values her own life.

Care home manager Alison, pictured before the makeover, left, said she deeply felt the impact of working throughout the coronavirus pandemic. She looked rested and relaxed after her transformation, right

‘We didn’t know what we were dealing with and we did the best we could but we lost people along the way and it’s something that had a massive impact on me and how I see life,’ she said.

‘Life’s for living and I never lived my life,’ the single mother said, admitting she hadn’t dated since her son Jack, now 12, was born.

Rachael spent her life putting other people ahead of herself, but she struggled with a troubled past (pictured before)

Rachael, pictured after, said the makeover not only make her look good, but also made her feel good on the inside as well

‘My son means the absolute world for me and I adore him,’ Alison said. ‘I go without most things to make sure he has everything, it’s been very very hard work to keep everything together.’

‘The relationships that I’ve’ had in the past, I haven’t been treated very well and that does take your confidence completely away from you.

‘I don’t want to go out anymore,’ she told Sam, her best-friend.

‘Sh’e still gorgeous and she still bubbly, but she can’t see it,’ Sam said.

Her son Jack addedd: ‘I describe my mum as kind, loving, caring. She’s always there for me and all aroud amazing.’

At the beginning of the week, a panel of strangers gave Alison an average age of 54, six years older than her real age.

This motivated her desiere to reconnect with her old self, telling Cherry: ‘I used to be the life and soul of the party, I didn’t care. I want my life to change.’

Her first appointment was with beauty and skin expert Nilam Holmes, who said she had to pull the ‘big guns,’ to treat Alison.

The mother-of-one agreed her skin needed a little boost and said working such long shifts during lockdown had aged her.

‘We were working solidly six weeks without a day off. I would do 15-hour shifts and cry and then I’d have to go back and do it again. It was incredibly difficult,’ she said.

Working seven days a week without much breaks at the height of the pandemic, Alison, pictured before, left, said 2020 had been extremely difficult for her, but felt much better after her makeover, right

‘I see these dark bags under me eyes, wrinkles, my mouth is just down. I don’t feel like I look like me anymore,’ she added.

Nilam first cleansed Alison of the dirt and dead skin cells that were clogging her pores, before applying a micro-needling treatment to boost her collagen production and bring some elasticity to her skin.

She then put Alison on a drip to give her a dose of vitamins, minerals and electrolytes to perk up her skin.

Then it was the turn of stylist Gemma Sheppard, who tasked herself with showing tall Alison that she shouldn’t be hiding her body but instead showcasing her assets, such as her long legs, with flowy cuts and shirts accentuating her waist.

When it came to her make-up, Alison opened up to makeup artist Hannah Martin and said she usually ‘stacked’ products on her face like a mask to hide her age.

‘If i put a mask on and it’s quite thick nobody see how aged I am underneath,’ she told her.

Hannah gave Alison a light makeup tutorial and taught her that when it comes to what we put on our face, less is more.

After a week of working on her skin and style, Alison was ready for her big reveal.

She was left speechless by her own transformation, tearing up as she saw how different she looked.

For her reveal look, the team dressed her up in a stylish burgundy dress and styled her hair in wavy curls.

She was wearing natural makeup with a ruby lip and looked much more relaxed than she did at the start of the experience.

Passers-by put her age at 44, ten years younger than she looked previously and four years younger than her actual age.

The makeover marked a new start for Alison, who said she felt ready to like herself again.

The mother-of-one beamed at the end of the experience, with her wavy hair and beautiful makeup

Meanwhile, Rachael, a busy foster mum, was struggling with her body confidence and self-esteem after years of putting others ahead of herself.

‘When I look at myself in the mirror, I think “Who’s that old lady looking back”. It’s awful,’ she said.

Becky, Rachael’s daughter, agreed saying ‘she’s lost her way a little bit.’

And her sister Zena said: ‘She’s helped people all through her life and it’s time someone help her.’

She told Cherry she was eager to take part in the programme because she had a school reunion coming up, and she wanted to make a good impression after slimming down.

‘I’ve lost a little bit of weight recently I’m trying to get in touch with my feminine side,’ she said.

‘It would be nice to start looking after myself. I’d like to look and feel comfortable tin my own saggy, wrinkly skin,’ she added.

One of the main hurdles Rachael had to face was to get out of her own way in order to dress more appropriately.

TV reality fan Rachael admitted she tried to hide her age by dressing young, but her family cringed at the outfits she put together, which included crop top, mini skirt, plunging necklaces and bralettes.

Rachael’s first appointment was with stylish Gemma Sheppard, who showed her how she could dress for her age and still be sexy

‘I’m a big fan of reality TV, I watch the young people in this and try to emulate what they wear,’ Rachael admitted.

She added:  ‘I’m trying to recapture my teenage years I want to be confident and sexy

Gemma was adamant Rachael could take her wardrobe in another direction: ‘You can still be very confident without that age inappropriate fashion,’ she told her.

‘You can still be freaking fabulous at 55 and sexy and not try to be our 20-year-old safe when you’re 55,’ she said.

Gemma put the foster mother in several outfits that complimented her silhouette without being too revealing, and Rachael loved it.

Next, she met with Cherry, to discuss her past, which was still haunting her.

Rachael admitted she was ‘angry’ when she was in school and took it out on other children by being a ‘bully.’

‘The earliest memories I have of my dad, he had alcohol dependency problem,’; she said.

She added she grew up around lots of arguing and people getting drunk at home, which had an effect on how she behaved at school.

She told Cherry she soon realised after leaving school she didn’t want to be a person who bullied other people.

‘As soon as I left school I realised I wanted to help people like me, I went into mental health and I’ve been there ever since,’ she said.

‘I have a big desire to get some closure, I was s horrible at school and I want to say sorry,’ she added.

Cherry saw that the guilt was weighing on Rachael’s shoulders.

‘She carries a huge amount of shame for that, it’s time to shed that guilt. It’s about her stepping into her new identity, having a bit of fun,’ she said.

Rachael said the talk with Cherry helped her put things into perspective.

‘It’s helped me understand my actions and how I’ve evolved as I got older, it was a  really cleansing experience,’ she said.

‘This whole journey is making me feel good on the inside,’ she said.

Rachael also met with John Vial, who decided to spruce up her blond extensions in something a bit more current.

The hair stylist said he wanted Rachael to ‘feel whole and elegant and confident and really powerful.’

Her last appointment was with cosmetic dentist Uchenna Okoye, where Rachael admitted she regretted having a golf tooth put in when she was younger, and that she didn’t ‘100 per cent brushed her teethe everyday.’

Rachael said she felt confident enough to let go of the past after her impressive makeover (pictured)

When she recovered from these revelation, Uchenna worked her magic to restore Rachael’s smile.

When came time for her reveal, Rachael said she felt like a ‘prom queen,’ head of her school reunion.

The team put her in a beautiful burgundy gown with a cape covering her arms. Her blond extensions were replaced with a honey, coppery sleek blob, and just a dash of makeup completed her face.

Rachael was feeling much more confident than she did at the start of the week.

‘I am here and I’m me and I feel fantastic,’ she said.

Viewers loved the makeover and said Rachael and Alison were lovely women. They were also touched by their families’ reactions

‘I feel like I’ve left the old Rachael behind. The bully, the obnoxious girl, the frightened girl,’ she said.

At the end of the experiment, people put Rachael’s new age at 50, five years younger than she actually was, and 12 years younger than people thought she looked previously.

Viewers loved the makeover and said both Rachael and Alison were lovely.

‘Wow she looks fabulous,’ #one said about Alison’s transformation

‘The haircut has made a great difference,’ another wrote.

‘I really like Alison, lovely lady,’ one said.

‘Both looked gorgeous, loved the transformations and the relatives reactions especially Alison’s son,’ said one.
