Sweet unseen photos show Princess Charlotte smiling as she was handed a gift outside church on Christmas Day. 

The four-year-old royal was given a £1.50 pink plastic flamingo by royal fan Gemma Clark, 39, as she left St Mary Magdalene Church on the Sandringham estate.

Photos shared on the day showed the interaction from behind, with Charlotte leaning into hug Gemma, who was in a wheelchair. The heart-warming pictures were published around the world. 

However these new images, shared by Gemma’s mother, Pam, show the princess’s smiling face for the first time.

Prince George, six, who was shyer during the meet-and-greet, is seen looking on as his sister received the present. 

Gemma, who has cerebral palsy, travelled from Long Sutton in Lincolnshire to see the royal family and was thrilled to get a thank you hug from Princess Charlotte. 

Gemma was given the inflatable flamingo, named Felicity, for her birthday and took it to different places and recorded its travels in a scrapbook. 

She decided to pass the flamingo onto Charlotte after the princess made a beeline for it after the church service.

Gemma was delighted when George and Charlotte both hugged her.  

‘It made my day,’ she said at the time. ‘I’ve never seen the royal family, ever. This is my first time at Sandringham and I would love to do it again.’ 

Taking to her royal duties with aplomb, Princess Charlotte also greeted twins Thomas and Theresa Richman, nine, who were delighted when they presented the Cambridges with flowers.

The siblings, who suffer from Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, were able to secure a place in front of the main crowds in their wheelchairs and spoke to both George and Charlotte. 

Their overjoyed mother told The Daily Telegraph: ‘It was absolutely stunning – I survived breast cancer six years ago so to still be here and see that today with the children was absolutely tremendous.

‘I think this has made our Christmas and made our year, it was a real honour to meet them all.’
