Woman, 26, whose rosacea ‘damaged’ her ‘self-esteem’ claims £19.95 concealer made with CAPERS reduced her redness in four weeks
- Danielle Daly, 26, from Birmingham, developed rosacea when she was aged 19
- GP prescribed a variety of creams but she claimed nothing seemed to work
- Found unlikely solution in form of concealer which treats symptoms of red skin
A woman who developed rosacea as a teenager has found relief from her redness in a concealer made with capers – which she claims improved her skin in one month.
Danielle Daly, 26, from Birmingham, began getting the first symptoms of rosacea when she was just 19-years-old.
The retail supervisor went to her GP several times about her skin and received many types of creams to try and treat both her acne and rosacea – but nothing seemed to work until she found an unlikely solution in the form of £19.95 Kalme Chameleon Concealer.
Danielle claimed she noticed some improvements within a few days of applying the product – and a significant improvement after one month.

‘My rosacea started on my right cheek when I was nineteen,’ explained Danielle. ‘Before that I had had no acne or any other skin issues.
‘It then spread to my other cheek and then to my nose. More recently, it spread to my chin and forehead too.’
‘I have Papulopustular rosacea, which means I also get painful puss-filled spots of all sizes, along with my redness and bumpy skin.’
Danielle says she is unsure how it began, but admits she found that stress was one of her main triggers.
‘I am now carefully monitoring my diet to see if there are any dietary triggers that are possibly affecting my rosacea and acne breakouts,’ she said.
‘I honestly didn’t know what to do when I first started getting symptoms. At the time I thought I was having a late acne spell from puberty.’

‘People, including most doctors, think rosacea only affects older people but that is not correct. It can start in your teens as it did with me. It can also start anytime in your 20s or 30s.
‘This is a fact that needs more awareness as rosacea is often misdiagnosed in younger people as doctors assume it’s just normal acne.’
As time went on and Danielle got older, the flare-ups continued and her rosacea started to be evident all the time and progressively got worse.
‘It became clear to me that this was something other than late onset teen acne,’ she explained. ‘My rosacea progressed to cover nearly my whole face.
‘The redness also deepened and my breakouts have because more frequent and aggressive too.’
After being referred to a dermatalogist by her GP, Danielle was diagnosed with rosacea and given a cream that seemed to calm it down for a few hours a day.
However after prolonged use, she claims it stopped having the same effect as it did at the start.
‘My rosacea has made me feel terrible for years,’ said Danielle. ‘Looking at myself in the mirror every day and seeing how my rosacea was spreading, was worrying.

‘It progressively started damaging my confidence, self-esteem and my mental health as there was no reprieve.’
Then, a few months ago, Danielle suffered from a very aggressive breakout.
WHAT IS ROSACEA?
Rosacea is a common but poorly understood long-term skin condition that mainly affects the face.
Symptoms often begin with episodes of flushing, where the skin turns red for a short period, but other symptoms can develop as the condition progresses, like spots, papules and pustules.
It can be controlled to some degree with long-term treatment, but sometimes the changes in physical appearance can have a significant psychological impact.
Rosacea is a relapsing condition, which means there are periods when symptoms are particularly bad, but less severe at others.
See your GP if you have persistent symptoms that could be caused by rosacea. Early diagnosis and treatment can help stop the condition getting worse.

‘It was covering my chin and forehead and on the side of my mouth,’ she explained. ‘I’ve struggled mentally too.’
‘It’s been hard to have feelings of positive self worth, especially when trying to get into relationships and keeping a brave face when at work.’
‘It’s a vicious circle too, when you’re suffering mentally already and then look in the mirror and can feel and see your skin hurting.
‘It was hard to stay positive, especially when you constantly have to deal with people’s reactions.’
Recalling one particularly cruel remark, Danielle said: ‘Last year I was making my way to work. The train was quite crowded and a lady took the empty seat next to mine.
‘As she got up to leave the train, her son, who was about 15 years old followed her off and as they left he said: “Let’s get off before you get infected, Mum”.’
Since starting an Instagram account about her rosacea (@dannieghxo), Danielle has been posting more of her bare skin and showing her bad flare-ups, instead of always trying to filter photos or trying to cover up her rosacea with thick makeup.
‘It was through social media I heard about Kalme skincare for rosacea,’ she continued.
‘I was quite skeptical at first as I’ve tried so many products that either don’t work or make my skin worse, but I did my research and read many other testimonials from people who had tried the products and you could tell they were genuine. It was their accounts that really convinced me to try the products.’
Danielle claims it was a matter of weeks before she started to see a significant improvement in her skin.
‘I was having quite an aggressive flare-up when I started using the products; within days I noticed my skin become smoother with far less texture and after about a month my skin was so much smoother,’ she said.
Danielle went on to explain that the product has a long list of ingredients in it that claim to help combat the various symptoms of rosacea from redness, dryness to sensitivity as well as a mineral SPF to protect against UV related flares. Pictured, after applying the product
Danielle (pictured) has praised the Chameleon Concealer, £19.95, available from kalme.co.uk
‘I’m now about five weeks in and my painful breakouts have hugely reduced and in several areas of my skin they have completely cleared.
‘I used the whole skincare range, which is recommended, but the Kalme Chameleon Concealer is the product that really worked wonders for me.’

She added: ‘It also contains an adaptive concealer. It covers redness but still looks really natural because it adapts to the daily changing skin tones that come with having rosacea. My skin can be a different tone from one day to the next and the concealer adapts to this.
It feels like everything you need to combat the different and difficult issues that go with rosacea have been put it into one little bottle.’
