Save on classroom essentials with our top picks for stationery

IT is almost back-to-school time already.

If you have not yet stocked up on those classroom essentials, don’t worry.

Here are my top picks for stationery so you can pack their pencil cases on the cheap . . .

BACK TO BASICS: Parents can find plenty of school must-haves for great prices while doing their weekly food shop.

I have spotted great deals on stationery at Asda, such as a pack of two rubbers for 90p, down from £1; A5 project books for £1, down from £1.50; Tipp-Ex for £1.50, down from £3; and a ten-pack of Staedtler Noris pencils with eraser and sharpener for just £2, down from £3.50.

NUMBERS GAME: The Helix Oxford maths set is an iconic piece of school kit . . . and I am pretty sure the packaging hasn’t changed a bit since I was at school.

You can currently buy this essential at WHSmith for just £2.49, down from £4.99.

It includes a 15cm ruler, 45-degree and 60-degree set squares, 180-degree protractor, single-hole pencil sharpener, eraser, stencil, metal compass with safety point, pencil and a blank timetable. You know it adds up.

WRITE IDEA: Handwriting pens are an essential piece of stationery.

I am loving B&M for school bargains at the moment.

There is so much to choose from, all at great prices. You can pick up a five-pack of staple Berol handwriting pens for just £2.50, usually £4.99.

And there are fun Zebra Doodlerz glitter gel stick pens, £2.49 for ten but usually £7.49, up for grabs.

TOP MARKS: Kit out your kids’ pencil cases with a brightly coloured range of markers for less at The Works.

There, you can buy a pack of ten permanent colour markers for just £1.50.

That works out far cheaper than stocking up on the popular Sharpie fine-point permanent markers, £9.33 for a pack of 12 at Ryman.

Prices correct at time of press. Deals and offers subject to availability.
