School’s ‘spot on’ letter about uniform receives high praise from parents

A primary school was praised for reassuring parents about school uniform.

Wellesbourne Primary and Nursery School in Liverpool told mums and dads “not to worry” about having clothes fully stocked.

In a snippet of the message shared online by dad Colin Flood, a school spokesperson said: “Please do not worry if your child’s uniform or PE kit has needed replacing and you are unable to do so.

"Please don’t worry about school shoes, with just over a term to go and children growing so fast you may want to hold off replacing them until next school year.

"The most important thing to us is to have them back in school."

Colin believes the school got the policy “spot on”.

He said: "I just think common sense is the winner here, some pupils leave primary school in the summer to start secondary school which means another new uniform and having to buy another one is hard enough for some parents and with lots of people having lost jobs or on reduced wages due to Covid.

"Two new uniforms is going to be a huge struggle for them.

“It should all be about just getting the kids back to school and a little bit of normality instead of the pressure of what you have to wear."

The dad’s tweet has garnered more than 44,700 likes – and according to Liverpool Echo, many loved the school’s initiative.

One Twitter user said: “Well done to that school!

“This struggle is real, my son leaves high school in June and I have to purchase new uniform for this short period as he has sprouted to 6ft since September.”

Another said: “Spot on. At this moment the last problem in the world is uniform.

“A proper caring school is not just a*sed about a school image.”

And a third added: “A headteacher showing great common sense, recognising that having the children back in class is more important than all that other stuff. Great job.”
