Thrifty mum reveals how she transformed her dull carpeted staircase into an elegant flight of steps for just £50 with materials from eBay and B&Q

A DIY enthusiast has taken to social media to reveal how she was able to transform her home’s uninspiring staircase into an elegant flight of steps for just £50. 

Bargain hunter Helen Barnes took to the Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains, to showcase how she was able to achieve the stylish look with purchases made from a range of home decor stores and eBay.

Sharing her excitement with social media users, the shopper wrote: ‘Renovated the stairs for around £50 and absolutely love them still!’

The shopper went on to describe the steps she had undertaken to give her dull carpeted staircase a dramatic new look. 

She continued: ‘For all those that are asking we laminated at the top and bottom of the stairs.’

Helen went on to reveal her stair treads were from eBay, the laminate and stair paint from B&Q (Leyland), and the accessories – a clock, large painting and shelves, from B&M and Dunelm.

She added that the paint on the wall is Johnstone’s moonlight sky matt finish. 

A selection of images shared by the shopper showed how the lifeless navy blue carpet was replaced with grey stair treads from eBay and the walls were coated in a very pale grey.

The shopper went on to share a picture of the top of her flight of stair which featured large clock from B&M

The new staircase also featured a selection of shelves from B&M and a large painting from Dunelm.
