With presents unwrapped and mince pies had, thoughts now turn to preparing the big Christmas meal. But if you’ve realised you didn’t buy enough wine, or perhaps you forgot the mint sauce, where can you head out?
The bad news is that not many shops are open on Christmas day in the UK.
If you have a local independent off-licence or similar nearby, you might be able to try them, as some stay open for the holidays.
Most major British retailers, however, shut their doors on Christmas Day.
Below is a list of all the major stores, and when they reopen, as well as their store locator so you can ring up and make extra sure.

Tesco
Unfortunately, all Tescos, large and small, are closed today.
But if you can hang on until tomorrow, many stores will be opening their doors on Boxing Day.
Extra, Superstores and Metro stores across England, Wales and Scotland will resume trading between 9am and 6pm, whereas in Northern Ireland it is 10am to 6pm.
Express stores will open from 8am to 10pm on Boxing Day, with usual hours observed on Thursday, December 27.
All petrol stations will be observing hours form 8am to 7pm.
To be on the safe side, type in your postcode using the Tesco store locator tool and check.
Sainsbury’s
All Sainsbury’s around the UK will be shut today.
Many shops will be back open on Boxing Day but times will vary for individual stores.

Aldi
Aldis will be shut on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, reopening on Thursday, December 27 between 8am and 10pm.

Lidl
Lidls will also be closed on Christmas Day.
Shops will be shut on Boxing Day except for most stores within the M25 which will be open between 10am and 4pm.

Morrisons
All branches of Morrisons are shut today.
But shops will be back open on Boxing Day.
In England, Wales and Scotland, stores will operate between 9am and 6pm, cafes 9am and 3pm, petrol stations 8am and 8pm.

Asda
Asda has said all its shops are shut on Christmas Day.
Shops will reopen on Boxing Day but check with your local Asda using the Asda store locator first online.
Waitrose
All Waitrose stores are closed today but the seasonal opening times are now online.
