Singer Jewel speaks out on body image while wearing a vintage corset

A photo of Jewel donning a vintage corset sparked the singer to reflect on self-love and past body image issues.

“This pic got me thinking… How many women have struggled w liking their body?” the 46-yer-old singer captioned the snap of herself laying on a bed. “How many times have you (I) felt less than, only to look back on photos of that time and think- I had no idea I was enough? Or feel stuck between having to downplay looks to be acceptable, or feeling you have to be be hyper sexual to be liked? Who finds the sexuality of how women in media are portrayed to be inauthentic and put-on?”

She added “Here is to being good with where we are … and flaunting it sometimes when we feel good! ??”

The “Who Will Save Your Soul” crooner has branched out in recent years with a jewelry line and her Instagram feed is filled with uplifting quotes and videos.

“I’m acutely aware of how people suffer, and that very few people talk in a transparent way about their suffering,” she told Vogue in 2015. “It isolates us. I think it’s good when anybody can share their story with authenticity. I’ve learned a lot by listening to other people, about how they handle things, how they perceive things. I guess I feel a little bit of an obligation to share those things.”

She was married to professional rodeo cowboy Ty Murray with whom she shares son Kase, 9. The couple amicably split in 2014.
