Spoilers: Harold returns as Mackenzie faces eating disorder in Neighbours

Old Jelly Belly is back in Neighbours this week and he’s managing to cause a stir while saving the day all in one. Harold Bishop (Ian Smith) is finally the one to get through to Mackenzie (Georgie Stone), could this be a turning point for her?

Less pleased with his return will be Melanie (Lucinda Cowden), who might fall foul of his meddling. When he decides with Zara (Freya Van Dyke) that Mel isn’t good enough for Toadie (Ryan Moloney), how far will he go to break them up?

Another relationship facing tension is that of Jane (Annie Jones) and Clive (Geoff Payne) – the return of Jane’s son is about to unearth some dirty secrets of Clive’s that could spell the end for this loved-up couple.

Terese (Rebekah Elmaloglou) is offered the chance to get back in the driving seat when Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis) shows a moment of weakness and boy does she feel it is good to be back.

And Freya (Phoebe Roberts) is in an almighty bind thanks to the debt she must pay to Emma.

Here’s what’s ahead in Neighbours.

Clive linked to Byron’s sex work

When Byron meets his mum’s boyfriend Clive for the first time, he makes a startling discovery – Clive is linked to his sex work past. He realises Clive’s connected to one of his clients and starts to do a little digging, believing that Clive might be cheating on Jane. Nic gets in on the super sleuthing and the pair begin to bond. But what will they find out?

Harold’s return saves Mackenzie from eating disorder?

Grant discovers some videos of Hendrix and decides Mackenzie is too fragile to see them. He fails to see she is an adult and should be allowed to make decisions for herself, that is until Toadie and Mel get involved. But his decision to withhold Mackenzie’s last grasp on Hendrix does not go down well and a fresh rift rips open between father and daughter. This causes her to spiral further, and Karl and Susan are shocked to find the state she’s in when they return. Mackenzie is secretly struggling with her grief and inability to eat, but Harold senses something is up. He shows her the compassion she so desperately needs and it’s the first glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel that she’s seen.

Chloe sees the future

Chloe is in for two surprises; one is that Kiri is going to church again, and the other is that she’s going with Nic. The latter finally gives Chloe the kick up the backside she needs, and she instigates a talk with Kiri where she allows herself to be vulnerable. Will they decide to try for a future together or will they decide to give it up?

Terese offers an olive branch

Paul is fretting about David’s predicament, fearing for his safety. With his mind preoccupied, he struggles to handle things when a guest well known for being difficult arrives at the hotel. Terese feels for Paul and secretly steps into smooth things out. She can’t help enjoying having her hands back on the reigns.

Plot to break up Toadie and Melanie

Amy is giving online dating a go and enjoying it about as much as rubbing a birdseye chilli in her eyes. She experiences gaslighting, manipulation and ghosting all in one and is downhearted to realise this is her future now. She confides her woes in Nicolette, whose suggestion sends Amy down a rabbit hole – she starts seeing Toadie in a different light. She foolishly tells this to Zara, who seems to make it her mission to get her mum what she perceives her to want – Toadie. And to do that she may be angling to get Melanie out of the way. Zara sees her mum struggle when Toadie and Mel celebrate their engagement and she turns to Harold for some pearls of wisdom. Zara suggests they break the couple up, but Harold puts his foot down, although confirms he too is not a fan of Mel. Will Zara and Harold work in cahoots to oust Mel from Toadie’s life?

Freya’s in trouble

Using Emma to help protect David comes at a cost. She’s cashing in on favours with Freya, putting her in all sorts of awkward situations. The worst one is a huge dilemma for Freya; Emma demands she carry out a favour at the same time she’s due in court to be sentenced. Freya must carry out the task, but she also must appear in court. How will she appease Emma?

Scenes air from Monday July 4 on Channel 5.
