Student whose acne was so severe she wouldn’t leave the house without a ‘full face of make-up’ praises £6 charcoal soap for improving her skin in just TWO WEEKS
- Lucy Heyes, 19, from Liverpool, developed severe acne at the age of 17
- Special Effects make-up student would not leave the house without full coverage
- Friends would reassure her but her acne caused confidence to hit an all-time low
A student who suffered with severe acne has praised a £6 cleansing bar containing charcoal and tea tree oil for dramatically improving her skin in just two weeks.
Lucy Heyes, 19, from Liverpool, first suffered with acne at the age of 17 when she had a contraceptive implant fitted.
During her Special Effects studies she noticed her skin flare up – just one month after receiving the implantation.
The spots on her face were extremely sore and aggressive, and despite trying numerous creams and topical treatments, nothing seemed to work – until she found an unlikely solution in a vegan cleansing bar.
‘I wouldn’t leave the house without a full face of make-up’, explained Lucy. ‘I was frequently late for lectures and classes as well as my part-time job at the local hospital’.

She added: ‘If my make-up didn’t look right, I would miss nights out. My social life really suffered’.
‘My confidence hit a real low, despite my friends and families trying to reassure me I looked OK’.
‘As part of my studies I would have to model make-up myself, which became really difficult due to my skin being so irritated’.
Lucy went to see her GP, but they advised that her acne was an initial reaction to the contraceptive implant, and that her skin complaint would settle once her body got used to the hormones.

While she persevered, her acne became worse. Four months later, Lucy took the decision to have the implant removed.
Upon her GP’s advice, she opted for the oral contraceptive pill instead – but there were still no improvements with her complexion.
‘I felt so low and helpless,’ said Lucy, ‘My mum was continuously researching online to try and find something to help improve my skin. She was so worried about me.’
It was then that Lucy’s mum Sue discovered Carbon Theory, a London born brand that was obtaining a lot of social media visibility due to its affordable skincare.
‘My mum saw the Carbon Theory Charcoal & Tea Tree Oil Break-Out Control Facial Cleansing Bar on Facebook,’ said Lucy.
‘It was only £6 and so many people were claiming it had helped clear their acne. I went on the Carbon Theory website and ordered some straight away.’

Lucy has been using the Carbon Theory bar for one year, along with the brand’s moisturiser every other day.
‘My skin is normal now,’ explained Lucy, `’I get the odd spot on rare occasions, but the redness has gone.’
‘I’m so much more confident now that I’ve beaten the acne and frequently leave the house without make-up.’
She added: ‘So many people have messaged me on Instagram asking how I combated problem skin. I’ve told them it’s all thanks to Carbon Theory’.
