Country star Trisha Yearwood has contracted the novel coronavirus COVID-19, her husband Garth Brooks announced via Facebook Wednesday.

Brooks, 59, and Yearwood, 56, are “currently quarantining at home on the heels of a recent positive Covid test by a member of their team,” per “Team Garth”‘s post from Wednesday evening.

“Subsequent tests they’ve had in recent days have indicated Trisha has contracted Covid, while Garth remains negative.”

“Officially,” Brooks adds, Yearwood is “diagnosed as ‘on her way out of the tunnel’ now, though, which I’m extremely thankful for.”

The recent winter storms that blanketed much of the country prevented Yearwood and Brooks from getting tested for some time.

“Anyone who knows me knows my world begins and ends with Miss Yearwood, so she and I will ride through this together,” Brooks said. “And anyone who knows her knows she’s a fighter and she’s been doing everything right, so I know we’ll walk out the other side of this thing together.”

Yearwood is “okay so far, but is dealing with symptoms,” but Brooks adds that “the possible long-term effects on her [voice] concern me as her husband and as a fan,” and notes that “We’re very lucky she is currently under the greatest care in the best city for treating and healing singers.”

Yearwood and Brooks had been friends and musical partners for years pre-romance; when they first met, they were both married to other people. Following their respective divorces, they started dating in 2002, and Brooks proposed to Yearwood onstage in 2005; the couple were married later that year and Yearwood became a stepmother to Brooks’ three daughters from his previous marriage

Brooks, a registered Republican, hopped back into the spotlight in January when he performed at President Biden’s inauguration. He will also be honored at the annual Kennedy Center Honors in May.
