DREAM GARDENS

★★★

8pm, ABC

Host Michael McCoy boldly declares that his love of garden demolition rivals his love of garden construction in one of many pieces of archival footage put to good use in this follow-up to a Black Saturday survival story. Strath Creek couple Stewart and Sandra Hart take McCoy through their pretty country garden to see how nature has taken up where Paul Bangay left off. We also get a glimpse of the designer’s own slice of Versailles near Kyneton.

New series ★★★★

8.30pm, NITV

It takes a few scenes for Kelly Rowland (pictured) to settle into the role of Gladys Knight in this 10-part drama series about the rise of African-American owned TV program Soul Train. From a musical perspective, though, she hits the right note from the start. A sexy 1970s groove pulsates through this story about Dan Cornelius, the producer who put cultural change in prime time. The cast includes Bobby Brown as Rufus Thomas and singer Michelle Williams as Diana Ross.

Double episode ★★★½

7.30pm, 7Flix

Big bear of a gay dad Cam (Eric Stonestreet) is the star of the first of these two episodes when he accepts the honour of fronting a high-school graduation ceremony while his partner is needed elsewhere. Naturally, his efforts to impart some pearls of wisdom to the youth of today don't go quite as planned. The second episode is a harsh reminder of the passage of time, with Hayley and Dylan about to have twins.
