Brittnee and Brentt Proha decided they wanted to live on the road in 2018.
The couple have five kids between the ages of 4 and 13. They also have a dog named Helen.
After feeling too confined in the 4,000-square-foot home they built for their family, Brentt and Brittnee decided they wanted to travel year-round.
They moved their family of seven into a trailer three years ago, but soon outgrew the space.
The family upgraded to a 429-square-foot trailer in July 2020.
The family moved into the Heartland Mallard, and Brittnee planned to remodel the interior to fit her family's needs.
When you walk into the trailer, you're greeted by the living room.
"One of the reasons why we love this floor plan is because we actually love to entertain on the road," Brittnee told Insider. "So we liked that when you walk in, you would have a lot of seating areas."
Brittnee designed the tan couches in the sitting room.
The RV has a plethora of natural light thanks to its 17 windows.
The living room also features a nook with two blue chairs. The chairs match the blue couch on the opposite side of the room.
Brittnee said her home has a farmhouse aesthetic, combined with richer colors and textures.
Brittnee's favorite part of her home is the living room.
"I just love the blue chairs where we can sit and read," Brittnee said. "This is also where a lot of our big windows are."
"Plus, all of us can fit in this area," she added. The family often has movie nights together in the room.
The room also features a fireplace to make it extra cozy.
The kitchen sits behind the living room.
The cabinets below the countertops are a fun blue color, while the white cabinets above make the space look clean.
The kitchen also has a pantry.
The kitchen has a stove, oven, and microwave.
It also features a full-sized refrigerator, which Brittnee said is an upgrade from the fridge in their previous camper.
It's also helpful as her family eats all-organic, so having room for their fresh food makes a big difference in their daily lives.
The kids have their own room at the back of the camper.
The kids' room was previously a garage, but the Prohas converted it so their children could have their own space.
Their room features a bunk bed that can be pushed up, giving the kids room to play and study during the day. They're homeschooled, so the extra space is a big help.
The kids' room also has a washing machine and a private loft.
The couple's 13-year-old sleeps in the loft, and it's nice for her to have her own space, according to Brittnee.
The deck sits behind the kids' room.
The deck adds another 100 square feet to the home, allowing the Prohas to spread out.
Brittnee and Brentt have their own private, master bedroom.
The bedroom features a queen-sized bed and a large closet.
The storage is a huge benefit of the Prohas' RV. They have tons of cabinet and storage space, so they don't have to worry about feeling cramped.
But Brittnee also said her family doesn't have a ton of stuff, making living small easier.
The dresser also converts into a workspace.
A television also pulls out from behind the dresser, so Brentt and Brittnee can enjoy downtime together.
The master bedroom features an en suite bathroom.
It has a vanity, and a shower and tub combo.
The kids' room has a half bath as well.
The Prohas travel constantly, so living small doesn't save them money.
"We travel every two to three weeks," Brittnee told Insider, and they get advice on where to travel from others in the RV community.
Brittnee estimates her family has traveled to over 20 states at this point. They also like to really immerse themselves in wherever they visit, going to restaurants and experiencing the sights.
Their travels are a bit expensive, especially when combined with the fact that they eat organic. But not having a mortgage or utilities evens out the cost.
Brittnee told Insider her kids love their lifestyle.
"It's actually really fun," Brittnee said of raising five kids in a small space.
When her family lived in the larger house, all of the kids had their own rooms, but Brittnee always found them having sleepovers together in the playroom.
"Our kids actually really like to be around each other," Brittnee said.
The family also spends a lot of time outside, so no one ever feels too cooped up.
"We're not stuck anywhere," Brittnee said of why she loves life on the road.
"I love the flexibility," she said. "I love that we get to see things that a lot of people will never see."
"I don't know how I could go back to just being in one area again," she added. "I think we'll always end up traveling even when we buy property and have a house just because we love that we can move around."
Brittnee advises people who are interested in downsizing to have patience with the process. "It's going to be difficult for like the first six months," she said. "But after the six months, you will find your routine."
