Benidorm booming with Brits as Spain sees highest ever number of holidaymakers flock to bars and beaches

BRITS have been flocking to Benidorm as the popular destination sees its highest ever number of tourists.

Tourism is at an all-time high in Benidorm, Spain, with Britons outnumbering locals for the first time since the start of the pandemic.

The ever-popular British holiday hotspot has seen a boom in visitors since the relaxation of Covid restrictions.

The pandemic prevented many holidaymakers flying over and enjoying a pint in the sun over the last two years.

However, with passenger locator forms and pre-departure tests scrapped for all, people are free to jet off and enjoy sunny rays and beautiful beaches in the seaside resort.

Hoteliers are currently experiencing exceptional business and look forward to a prosperous Easter and summer, report the Express.

Spain has also relaxed its Covid regulations in recent months as have regional governments within Spain, including Valencia, which sets the rules for Benidorm.

Unlike England, face coverings are still required in indoor settings for people aged six and over.

Although the seaside haven was slammed by storms in recent days, Toni Mayor, president of the regional hotel association, insisted that the bad weather has not kept Brits away.

He said: "Despite the fact that the weather has not been on our side in recent days, the truth is that one more step has been taken in the tourist recovery and practically all destinations are at maximum data since the start of the pandemic.

"The British have already taken the lead in Benidorm, surpassing Spanish tourists in market share for the first time, a fact that has not been seen since the start of the pandemic and confirms the good forecasts that the sector has handled since the sixth wave of the pandemic was controlled."

It comes after Brits heading to Benidorm were told they may have to fork out more for a holiday thanks to a new tourist tax.
