Brits reveal their ideal road trip – which includes 56 songs and is less than three hours

THE perfect road trip would last just under three hours, feature a sea view – and include a sing-a-long to 56 songs.

A study of 2,000 Brits suggests three is the magic number, with this being revealed as the ideal amount of people in the car and also the number of breaks that would be taken.

These pit-stops would include taking in a nice view (58 per cent), grabbing something to eat (53 per cent) and even taking a walk (43 per cent).

The research, commissioned by Honda, also found the ultimate journey would feature views of mountains (51 per cent) and countryside roads (68 per cent).

As a result, if there was the option of getting to an end destination via a motorway and scenic route, 77 per cent would choose the latter – regardless of how much longer it takes.

A spokesman for Honda said: “Although this year is in no doubt different, this is the time of year where families get in their cars and set off to deliver presents or visit relatives.

“The survey results show that many may choose to take a nice scenic route rather than a busy motorway in order to get the most out of their journey.”

The study also found 77 per cent of Brits are inspired to continue the trend for road trips with 69 per cent doing so in order to see more of the UK.

As people prepare to drive home for Christmas, the features of a vehicle are also important with 41 per cent wanting lots of boot space, 56 per cent requiring air-con and 49 per cent needing a sat-nav.

More than two thirds of those polled via OnePoll also said they would consider investing in a hybrid car to be more environmentally friendly.

But while two in three adults said their ideal companion would be their partner, and 25 per cent would want their kids in the car, three in 10 would choose friends.

And 43 per cent would prefer to sit back and relax as they let someone else do all the driving, with just two in five choosing to be behind the wheel.

It also emerged that 27 per cent consider a homemade playlist to be the perfect soundtrack for a road trip with pop (40 per cent), rock (28 per cent) and hip hop (13 per cent) the most popular genres.

Honda’s spokesman added: “Road trips are always an exciting adventure, whether going for a long weekend, a holiday or to visit friends and family."

“A journey doesn’t have to just be straight down a motorway or include backseat bickers, it’s great to see what the nation feel their ‘dream’ trip would include, in an ideal world.

“When embarking on a longer journey, it’s vital that your car meets your needs and makes the drive an enjoyable experience.

“The new Honda Jazz Crosstar is ideal for exploring more of the UK, with versatile Magic Seats to optimise storage space, as well as waterproof upholstery – one of the many features which make the car perfect for an active lifestyle”.
