Couples can now open a wedding gift list specifically for honeymoon extras

Forget a traditional wedding gift list where you end up with heaps of household appliances you don't really want or need.

Instead, Holiday Extras has come up with a new service where couples can open a wedding registry specifically for their honeymoon, where guests can buy you plenty of add-ons to make the trip even more special.

For example, they could buy you a nice airport hotel stay if you've got an early flight, access to a swanky airport lounge to kick off the trip in style, luxury transfers on the other side to take you to your hotel, and even car hire if you're planning to do some exploring.

Basically, all those add-ons that you might not necessarily include in your honeymoon budget so you can use the cash on your hotel and experiences, but that could make a big difference to your trip.

The brand chose to launch a new Honeymoon Extras registry after it carried out research and found that almost half of newlyweds reject at least one wedding present, with the average couple returning six gifts after their big day.

Charity donations were the least popular wedding gift followed by household appliances, with most couples preferring to receive cash or money towards their honeymoon.

In fact of the couples who did ask guests for money instead of gifts, 21 per cent wanted to put it towards their honeymoon, with 12 per cent wanting to use it for some holiday extras.

The new registry can be a win-win too; if you don't want to ask for cash your guests are getting you experiences, while for guests it removes the hassle of trying to pick out a present.
