I'm a world-leading travel expert… here's the flights you should always book to avoid delays | The Sun

A TRAVEL expert has revealed how to make sure your flight isn't delayed.

The sight of long queues at airports fills many travellers with dread.

Flights can be delayed for a host of reasons, from technical glitches to security incidents and medical emergencies.

Now travel guru Gilbert Ott, who flies more than 200,000 miles a year, has advised flyers to book early morning flights if they want to avoid unnecessary delays.

Gilbert is a frequent flyer and founder of the website God Save the Points, where he advises people on how to get the best deals on their plane tickets, as well as offering other tips and tricks.

Gilbert said: "If it's one of the first flights of the day, most of those planes are parked overnight at that gate. They're not arriving that early and getting cleaned and changed."

Gilbert recently revealed the steps he takes to reduce the time he spends on an aircraft.

He told Business Insider that he always tried to book a seat at the front of the plane, so he was first off after landing. He said that he always avoided the back of the plane.

Gilbert added that he avoided taking a roller type bag on to planes. He said travellers with roller bags had to hunt for a space to store it and often became stuck on the plane after landing when they had to find the bag.

He said that he always tried to travel light, buying toiletries when he landed and not taking too many clothes with him.

Otto also provides travellers with tips on how to get the best prices when booking flights.

He said that "Black Friday and Cyber Monday" were the closest thing holidaymakers would likely get to "a magical day to book travel".

Instead, he recommends flying at certain times of the year to keep costs down, as well as getting to grips with online price trackers.

He continued: "To score the best flight deals, it’s often more about when you want to go than when you want to book, and setting price alerts to see when prices do change.

"Think about changing your travel plans to shoulder season months when airfare can be 43 per cent lower or better.

"Also, don’t be afraid to learn everything you can about Google Flights, so you can let the best deals you’ve searched for come to your inbox."

He recommends setting price alerts as early as possible and relaxing while the price changes are emailed directly to you.
