BRITS hoping for a boozy Spanish break this summer have had their hopes dashed as clubs on the Balearic Islands are unlikely to reopen.
While holidays to Spain can't yet go ahead, with the country not on the UK green list, the country hopes to welcome tourists from June when the EU vaccine passport launches.
Despite this, the Balearic Island head of government Francina Armengol has warned that clubs are unlikely to reopen until the vaccine rollout increases.
They told local media: "Only with a higher vaccination rate can we reopen the nightlife.
“The nightlife will follow later, probably not this summer.”
Spain's vaccine rollout is now speeding up after a slow start, with 5m people given both doses ahead of target.
Spain hopes to have 70 per cent of the population fully vaccinated by the end of August, with the next goal to have 15m vaccinated by next month.
However, this means clubs in Ibiza and Majorca, which includes favourites Amnesia, Ibiza Rocks and Privilege Ibiza, may not be able to open until the August target is hit – ruining plans for partying Brits.
Despite this, Iago Negueruela, Minister of Tourism for the Balearic Islands, said he was "encouraged" that Brits will be able to return soon, adding: "As we continue to ease restrictions and roll out the vaccine, we are looking to restart international tourism in the Balearic Islands, based on the highest standards of safety.
"A huge effort is taking place behind the scenes to start once again receiving tourists."
Earlier this week, Spanish tourism minister Reyes Maroto said Brits holidaying in Spain will not have to present a negative Covid test from May 20 if the UK maintains its low infection rate.
However, Covid measures are likely to remain in place when Brits return to Spain, especially to the islands.
Spain is currently on the amber list, along with most of Europe, which requires a 10-day home quarantine when returning to the UK.

Brits must also have a pre-arrival Covid test and pre-booked two Covid tests, to be taken on day two and day eight.
The UK government is to review the green list on June 5, with hopes that destinations with low Covid rates and high vaccinations could be added.
It is looking likely that most European hotspots including Spain and Greece will be left off until later next month.
