A couple have left the internet divided after sharing their airplane etiquette for fellow travelers to follow.

Travel influencers Matt and Hillary, behind TikTok account @HillnPoo, posted a video telling passengers not to stow their coats and jackets in the overhead baggage area.

Instead, they argue, travellers should hang their coats on the hooks provided, or lay their jackets across their lap.

Tiktoker @HillnPoo, which is run travel influencers Matt and Hillary, said that holiday goers always make a packing mistake when boarding a flight

In the video, viewed over 240,000 times, the voiceover says: ‘If you plan to fly in 2023, please don’t be the people who fill up an entire overhead cabinet with your jackets.

‘It’s an absolute waste of space. They could sit on your lap or most airlines have hooks.’

They then later added in the comments that jackets can go in the overhead bin, but only ‘after everyone has had the chance to put their bags up top’.

Users of the social media site are divided over the rule, with some saying that this is just common sense while others claim they have every right to use the overhead space.

One angry user, who claims to be a stewardess, wrote on TikTok: ‘Hi I am a flight attendant, I hate when passengers put their coats in the bin. Please hold until the luggage is in the bin, then shove your coat in.’

And another person put: ‘Yes please! It’s storage for big luggage not a wardrobe.’

A third commented: ‘People are so inconsiderate. I also never fly with a carry-on.’

While another simply put: ‘I can’t deal with the jackets in the overhead bins. It’s not a coat closet. It’s for storing bags and luggage!’

One traveler suggested that planes should allocate the lockers, writing: ‘They really should just start labeling overhead bins according to each seat’

However, other people were left confused as to why cabin crew ask you to stow away your belonging there in the first place.

They wrote: ‘Considering that the crew staff asks you to put your jacket there, it doesn’t make any sense not to do it.’

And another person who disagreed with the TikTok video put: ‘Well that is not right exactly. I tried few times to keep it on my knees and fligh attendant put it in overhead storage.’

While one traveler suggested that planes should allocate the lockers, writing: ‘They really should just start labeling overhead bins according to each seat. One seat, one overhead storage space.’
