The superyacht with 2 infinity pools (and one has a transparent floor)

An open-air 3D cinema, glass walls and FIVE pools (including one with a see-through floor): The battery-powered superyacht by a New York studio that’ll make a big splash with the super-rich

  • The 65m ‘See’ is by NYC-based studio Gill Schmid Design and Southampton-based Lateral Naval Architects
  • There is a glass roof above the outdoor screen that can be retracted to create ‘an oceanfront terrace’
  • Guests will be able to eat al-fresco, at a sushi counter and at a deli and raw food counter
  • Passengers are accommodated in six suites and one ‘owner’s suite’ with an ‘extensive’ outdoor deck
  • See’s primary source of power will be from batteries, which will be recharged by diesel engines

To impress potential superyacht owners, the more the merrier is the general rule of thumb.

So the ‘groundbreaking’ 65m (213ft) ‘See’, is sure to make a splash. After all, it has not one but five pools. Two of these are infinity pools – and one of them has a see-through floor.

Transparency on See, by New-York-based studio Gill Schmid Design and Southampton-based Lateral Naval Architects, is a theme – the boat features huge wrap-around reflective glass walls.

There’s a glass roof, too, above a 3D outdoor cinema screen. This can be retracted to create ‘an expansive oceanfront terrace’.

Foodies will be well-catered for on See thanks to a ‘concept kitchen’, with chefs able to make use of hydroponic tanks, a fermentation chamber, a mushroom lab and an outdoor barbecue.

Guests will be able to eat al-fresco, at a sushi counter, at a deli and raw food counter, and grab something delightful at the juice, coffee and dessert bar.

‘Food is part of the holistic lifestyle on board,’ says Gill Schmid Design.

Fitness fanatics will be able to make use of the gym – and relax afterwards in the sauna/steam room or tend to sore muscles in the hot tub.

Passengers are accommodated in six suites and one ‘owner’s suite’ with an ‘extensive’ outdoor deck.

The layout, meanwhile, is open plan, with ‘convertible spaces’.

‘Think Transformers in an architectural context,’ explains Gill Schmid Design.

It continues: ‘Innovative openable envelopes enable the vessel to transform from a sequence of separate spaces to a completely open and porous environment of experiences.

‘See offers a much more laid-back atmosphere with more casual dining, living and entertainment spaces.

‘You will not find a formal saloon or dining space or a complete separation between guests and crew.’

See’s primary source of power will be from batteries, which will be recharged by diesel engines.

Gill Schmid Design says: ‘The system enables diesel generators to be selected purely because of efficiency and optimum energy density. This brings advantages to overall architecture efficiency, flexibility of layout, noise and vibration, maintenance, and operational effectiveness of the vessel as a whole.’

See is a concept at present, but Gill Schmid Design adds: ‘We have ongoing interest from both shipyards and buyers and are hoping it will go into production.’
