Why it takes so long for your luggage to appear after a flight

WAITING around for your suitcase to be unloaded off a plane is one of the most frustrating parts of air travel.

And it turns out, everything you'd imagined about your bag moving at snail's pace is true.

A baggage handler who goes by @djsugue on Tiktok has uploaded a video to the social media site showing him unloading luggage from the belly of the plane.

In the video he is at the back of the luggage area, kneeling in front of stacked suitcases, which have previously been likened to Tetris blocks.

One-by-one he loads the bags onto a roller, managing 17 bags a minute.

Given that planes can carry 800-plus people, it's unsurprising that the process can take such a long time.

Sympathetic viewers shared their new found respect for baggage handlers in the comments section.

One person wrote: "This is hard work. RESPECT."

Another wrote: "Gonna have more patience after seeing it."

And one commented: "I couldn't do this. My arms would get tired too quick."

Sun Online Travel previously reported the best way to make sure your bag comes off the plane first.

Picking up a fragile sticker and slapping that on your suitcase allegedly speeds up the process as fragile bags are loaded onto the plane last so get unloaded first.

Similarly, waiting until the last minute to check-in will also get your bag returned quicker as it will be one of the last ones on the plane so will be first to come off.
