Former TOWIE favourite James ‘Arg’ Argent shares a post-surgery selfie from his hospital bed after his successful weight loss surgery.

The reality star has opened up to his fans about his gastric sleeve surgery on Instagram after he shared his latest snap from the hospital ward with a brave thumbs up.

James admitted last year that after he got clean from his drink and drug addiction, he quickly turned to junk food when the pandemic struck.

The 33-year-old decided to get the “life-saving” surgery after his weight ballooned to nearly 27 stone during the national lockdown.

In a post to Instagram, Arg proudly shared: “Today Is the First Day of the Rest of My Life. My weight loss journey has STARTED.

“I’ve had my gastric sleeve surgery with the incredible team at @wearetransform. I’ve struggled with my weight for years but I'm finally ready both physically & mentally to do something about it.

“The next few months are going to be tough but I’m determined to reclaim my life! NEW CHAPTER.”

James had his surgery in Birmingham last week, which cost £10,000, and saw surgeons remove some of his stomach as well as the installation of his gastric sleeve.

Doctors have advised Arg not to do any strenuous exercise or eat solid food for six weeks to allow his scars to heal fully.

However, after going under the knife, Arg has been vomiting blood and suffering in pain from trapped gas, but is continuing with his lifestyle overhaul in a positive attitude.

Fans were quick to send support to the Essex native including his former co-stars from the show including show narrator Denise Van Outen, Frankie Sims and four-time Olympic medallist Rebecca Adlington.

Diag's younger brother Jack Bennewith, who has recently undergone surgery to remove a brain aneurysm, commented: “Yes Arg I’ll keep you company on FaceTime while we recover!”

One user wrote: Yes Arg, it’s honestly the best feeling ever. I’m 6 months post op after my sleeve and I feel incredible. Good luck on your journey!”

Another added: “You’ll be fine … I got mine 10 weeks ago and I’ve nearly 3st off [sic] – best decision you’ll ever make.”

Speaking to The Sun just two days after the invasive operation, James revealed he has “already got a bit of a glow back” after the gruelling hour and a half operation.

He said: “This is the biggest operation I’ve ever had in my life, so I was scared.

“I did say to the surgeon, ‘Is there a chance I might not wake up?’ He said there was a small chance.

“I’ve already got a bit of a glow back in my face so I’m happy with that, and I feel like I’m already losing weight, which is good.”

Arg was first spotted after his operation on his Instagram stories to update his 783,000 followers on his condition.

Wearing a loose-fitting black tracksuit, James shared with his fans: “It’s a new year, it’s a new me and I want to try some really healthy recipes instead of snacking on all those bad things for me.”
