Lewis Capaldi promises second album will be 'universally panned by critics'

Lewis Capaldi has revealed (in true Lewis Capaldi fashion) that he is beginning work on his highly anticipated second album.

The singer, 24, stormed the music charts with the release of his debut album, titled Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent in 2019, and now he’s finally set to follow that up with a new record.

Taking to Twitter, Lewis confirmed he is heading back into the studio and plans to take a break from social media, while focusing on putting together new material.

Of course, he couldn’t resist mercilessly mocking himself as usual while sharing his news, as he promised fans that his next album will probably be ‘universally panned by critics’.

Lewis wrote: ‘Honestly been the most incredible few years and it means the world to have the support of all of you. Going to f**k off for a wee bit now to crack on and finish the second album.

‘Won’t be using any social media, so you’ll all have to make do without me talking sh**e and constantly trying to take your money by flogging you something.’

The funny artist continued: ‘Hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New Year and I’ll see you big lovely b******s later in the year with some new music that I imagine will be universally panned by critics and will fail to be as commercially successful as my last outing.

‘Thus spelling the beginning of the end of the 15 minutes of fame, that quite frankly, I never deserved in the first place.’

Lewis concluded: ‘IT’S ALL VERY EXCITING. LOVE YOU, STAY SAFE AND BYE FOR NOW.’

Fans were all for news of a second album, as they rushed to tell Lewis that he and his witty ways will be missed until his online return.

Plans for a new record come after Lewis previously decided against releasing any new music in 2020.

The Scottish star set his sights on 2021 instead, as he told Daily Star: ‘Hopefully I will release a new song and a new album next year. I won’t release another album this year or anything.’

‘I think people have suffered enough in 2020. They don’t need another song from me.’

That wasn’t to say that he hadn’t spent lockdown writing, as Lewis revealed he’d put together around 50 songs – a figure he found surprising as he initially thought he’d spend quarantine ‘sitting around in his pants’.

Fans will have high hopes for his second album, as Lewis’ first record soared to number one in the UK album charts and was certified gold just a week after its release.

His debut album features hits Someone You Loved, Bruises and Before You Go.
