Meghan Markle Says Palace Played “Active Role” in “Perpetuating Falsehoods” About Her & Prince Harry

The Duchess of Sussex is speaking out.

In a new teaser clip from Oprah Winfrey’s upcoming sit-down interview with Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan, viewers are finally hearing a bit of Meghan’s side of the story. In the clip, Winfrey asks the duchess, “How do you feel about the palace hearing you speak your truth today?” The following response from Meghan has quickly gone viral.

“I don’t know how they could expect that after all of this time, we would still just be silent if there is an active role that the Firm is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us,” says Meghan. “And if that comes with risk of losing things, I mean, there’s a lot that’s been lost already.”

The new clip is the first time viewers have heard Meghan speak aloud regarding her and Prince Harry’s royal exit last year. It also comes after a tense day for the Sussexes and Buckingham Palace.

Following a report from The Times that former palace aides accused the Duchess of Sussex of “bullying” and “harassment” while she was a senior working royal at Kensington Palace, Buckingham Palace announced that it is launching an investigation into the anonymous claims. Meghan’s representatives have fervently denied the allegations, saying in a statement that the allegations are “a calculated smear campaign based on misleading and harmful misinformation.”

“The Duchess is saddened by this latest attack on her character, particularly as someone who has been the target of bullying herself and is deeply committed to supporting those who have experienced pain and trauma,” the Sussexes’ spokesperson said in a statement shared with BAZAAR.com and The Times. “She is determined to continue her work building compassion around the world and will keep striving to set an example for doing what is right and doing what is good.”
