The Critics’ Choice Awards return for the 26th time on March 7, 2021! In honor of this year’s telecast, which will be hosted by Taye Diggs for the third consecutive time, Wonderwall.com is looking back at some of the most memorable gowns from previous Critics’ Choice Awards shows, starting with Rachel McAdams. Charlize Theron attended the 2019 Critics’ Choice Awards in a shimmering pewter Givenchy gown. The actress, nominated for her performance in “Tully,” stunned in the ombre-style dress that featured an elegant triangle cut-out and a glamorous one-shoulder cut.

Regina King was the picture of royalty in this Michael Kors Collection gown. The 2019 Critics’ Choice Award winner for best supporting actress for her work in “If Beale Street Could Talk” dazzled in a purple off-the-shoulder dress with a subtle shimmer and a conservative slit showing off her silver pumps.

In 2013, Naomi Watts walked down the Critics’ Choice Awards red carpet in a simple but impactful black Emilio Pucci gown that she perfectly accessorized with jeweled drop earrings in turquoise and purple.
In 2018, Allison Williams took a fashion risk — that paid off — in this Dolce&Gabbana ensemble. The look emitted a medieval chic vibe in a bold way.
Katie Holmes was a Grecian goddess in this champagne-colored Lanvin frock that she wore to the 2008 show. Although the glitzy dress lacked shape, Katie pulled it off with some excellent styling and dazzled that night.
Green was Emma Stone’s color when she walked down the red carpet at the 2012 show in support of her Critics’ Choice Award-winning film “The Help.” Emma looked chic in a Jason Wu dress featuring a tree print that also had a teardrop neckline and a handkerchief hemline.
Angelina Jolie was nominated for two Critics’ Choice Awards in 2015 for directing and producing “Unbroken.” While she didn’t take home a prize that night, she looked like a winner in this liquid silver Atelier Versace wrap-inspired dress with flutter sleeves.
At the 2005 show, Kate Winslet was nominated for best actress and best supporting actress for her performances in “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and “Finding Neverland.” For the big night, Kate went with basic black but made it a showstopper with a plunging neckline and a long, glitzy necklace.
When Lupita Nyong’o won a Critics’ Choice Award for her work in “12 Years a Slave” in 2014, she was equally deserving of a best dressed honor. Lupita’s while silk crepe Calvin Klein Collection gown was sexy and glamorous, and she accentuated it perfectly with stud earrings and a subtle pink lip.
Carey Mulligan, who was a 2010 nominee for her performance in “An Education, was seriously magnificent in this black gown with a gold hardware belt. But what really made this a showstopper was her statement necklace!
2016 Critics’ Choice Awards best actress winner Natalie Portman — for her work in “Jackie” — accepted her prize in this floral Alexander McQueen frock, which doubled as maternity wear: She was just a few months away from giving birth to her second child at the time.
Gal Gadot accepted the #SeeHer award at the 2018 show in this elegant yet sexy metallic gown by Prada.
Cate Blanchett, who won a best actress prize for her work in “Blue Jasmine” in 2014, went with a more conservative red carpet look at that year’s Critics’ Choice Awards. Cate opted for an understated dress — a short-sleeved Lanvin gown cinched at the waist with a wide black belt.
In 2019, nominee Nicole Kidman posed for photos in a magical monochromatic look by Armani Prive. She kept things simple with a black bag and shoes and just let the bold contrast do the talking — a total win!
A redhead in red? It works! In 2010, Julianne Moore leaned into red with this short Lanvin dress with a single embellished sleeve.
Eva Mendes made an LBD as bold as can be with this Valentino piece she wore to the Critics’ Choice Awards in 2011. Eva’s dress was sheer, lacy and playful with an oversized bow on the shoulder.
Viola Davis kept her 2011 look simple, which is often the key to a timeless look. Viola choose a sequined seafoam-hued Michael Kors Collection gown in a racerback cut and embraced the pastel color palette with pink lipstick and light purple eyeshadow.
Bella Thorne chose a half-sheer dress for the 2016 show in the form of this sequined and see-through Steven Khalil gown. While the gown was certainly provocative, there was something about it that retained elegance, making it an overall winner.
At the 2016 Critics’ Choice Awards, Kate Beckinsale glittered in this sheer Reem Acra gown. Kate’s look featuring a wide skirt, puffed sleeves and a high ponytail — was a perfect mix of strong and sexy.
Twice-nominated Hailee Steinfeld — for her work in “The Edge of Seventeen” — was the picture of youthful elegance in this Jason Wu dress at the 2016 show. Hailee kept her hair and glam simple to let the bold dress, with its sheer black base and neon flowers, stand out.
In 2018, Sarah Hyland struck a beautiful balance between glamorous actress and youthful ballerina with this sparkly black top and two-tiered tulle skirt. Her low bun added to the overall look without feeling like too much.
In 2018, Diane Kruger’s film “In the Fade” won a Critics’ Choice Award for best foreign language film. The red carpet darling embraced a risky look that paid off in this white and silver gown by Vera Wang. The silk crepe tiered gown featured a chain-link bodice that gave it a modern kind of feel.
Emmy Rossum impressed in 2016 in a black Giorgio Armani gown with a super-plunging neckline further highlighted by her long ponytail. The dress’s ballerina length made it playful and fun, which made it really stand out.
Constance Wu’s 2019 Critics’ Choice Awards look was a major winner, even if she wasn’t. (The “Crazy Rich Asians” star lost out in the best actress in a comedy category to “The Favourite” lead Olivia Colman.) Constance positively dazzled in a blush pink sequined Rodarte gown with a deep V-neck and feminine flutter sleeves.
Anne Hathaway won a Critics’ Choice Award for her work in “Les Misérables” in 2013 and her look that night was nothing short of French chic. Her Oscar de la Renta gown was a striking champagne color and the spirals throughout the fabric elevated the relatively simply silhouette.
