Micky Dolenz ‘Heartbroken’ by Death of The Monkees Bandmate Michael Nesmith

The 78-year-old crooner, who embarked on a farewell tour with Dolenz from September to November, died of heart failure at his home in Carmel Valley, California.

AceShowbizMicky Dolenz is mourning the death of Michael Nesmith. Upon learning that his The Monkees bandmate passed away at the age of 78, the vocalist and drummer for the 1960s pop-rock band took to social media to offer a touching tribute to his longtime collaborator.

Making use of Instagram on Friday, December 10, the 76-year-old shared a picture of the two sharing a hug on stage. “I’m heartbroken. I’ve lost a dear friend and partner. I’m so grateful that we could spend the last couple of months together doing what we loved best – singing, laughing, and doing shtick,” he wrote in the caption. “I’ll miss it all so much. Especially the shtick. Rest in peace, Nez… All my love, Micky.”

Nesmith died of heart failure at his home in Carmel Valley, California on Friday. Confirming his passing was his family, who told Rolling Stone in a statement, “With infinite love we announce that Michael Nesmith has passed away this morning in his home, surrounded by family, peacefully and of natural causes.” They added, “We ask that you respect our privacy at this time and we thank you for the love and light that all of you have shown him and us.”

Also sharing tribute to the late star was The Monkees tour manager, Andrew Sandoval. “It is with deep sadness that I mark the passing of Michael Nesmith. We shared many travels and projects together over the course of 30 years, which culminated in a Monkees farewell tour that wrapped up only a few weeks ago,” Andrew penned on Twitter.

Nesmith, who was the writer of songs like “Mary, Mary”, “Circle Sky”, “Listen to the Band” and “The Girl I Knew Somewhere”, embarked on a farewell tour with Dolenz a few months ago. They played 34 shows from September to November. They finished off the tour on November 14 in Los Angeles.

Nesmith, who was married three times and is survived by four children, was among the latest two surviving members of The Monkees aside from Dolenz. The group also consisted of Davy Jones, who died of heart attack in 2012, and Peter Tork, who lost his battle with adenoid cystic carcinoma in 2019.
