Timothée Chalamet has plans for peaches if Georgia turns blue in US election

It’s been a very stressful week worldwide thanks to the ongoing count in the US presidential election, but we’ve got to say – the memes have been top notch.

And Timothée Chalamet has contributed to the A+ election week treasure trove by harking back to one of his most famous scenes.

The 24-year-old shouted out the voters of Georgia by joking about his infamous peach scene in the 2017 film Call Me By Your Name in a hilarious Instagram story.

Joe Biden overtook Donald Trump in the traditionally Republican state of Georgia, with a lead of around 7,000 votes with 2% of the votes yet to be counted.

And people, including Timothée, are pretty excited about the prospect of Georgia – known as the Peach State, due to its production of the fruit – flipping blue.

The actor reposted a Twitter meme showing his character Elio lying in bed holding a peach, with the caption: ‘If Georgia goes blue…’ and added a splashing sweat emoji.

For those who haven’t seen Call Me By Your Name, the scene in question sees grad student Elio Perlman masturbating with a peach in bed, and Timothée has admitted it has affected how he sees peaches for life.

In an interview for i-D, Harry Styles asked the star: ‘Can you still eat peaches?’, with Timothée saying: ‘Umm I can, but not without thinking about it.

Harry joked that he’s ‘had a hard time’, with the Dune actor replying: ‘That’s the most awkward scene to see with your parents in the whole world. My poor father.’

The peach scene is in the book the film is based on, Andre Aciman’s 2007 novel of the same name, and director Luca Guadagnino admitted he was tempted to remove it from the script.

He said: ‘In the book, it is so strong and explicit that I thought it was a metaphor, something that couldn’t exist in real life. I was struggling with the possibility that you can masturbate yourself with such a fruit.’

So there was nothing left to do but try it – and Timothée also gave it a go.

Guadagnino told Out: ‘So I grabbed a peach and I tried, and I have to say—it works.

‘I went to Timothée and said, “We shoot the scene, because I tried it and it worked.” And he said, “I tried, too, and I already knew it worked.”’

Talk about method acting.

The world is waiting on Georgia, Arizona, Pennsylvania and Nevada to be called, with Joe Biden on the verge of winning the presidency.

However, even when the votes are called, it doesn’t look like things will be straightforward, as incumbent President Donald Trump has made baseless claims that voting fraud has taken place.
