From Princess Beatrice to Kate Middleton, the celebs going sustainable and recycling iconic outfits

IT used to be a fashion crime among the rich and famous to be seen in the same outfit twice, but celebrities have realised there’s nothing more stylish than being sustainable.

Last weekend Princess Beatrice recycled one of the Queen’s frocks for her wedding day, wearing an embellished gown that saw its debut in 1962.

Other A-listers have been re-wearing some of their most iconic outfits as well.

Follow suit and help to save the planet by having a wardrobe reshuffle and getting the most out of your clobber.

Here, Clemmie Fieldsend looks at celebs who have re-worn items and reveals how many years passed between the first and latest wears . . .

Cate Blanchett – 4yrs

Cate Blanchett: Despite her A-list status and with designers falling over themselves to get one of their frocks on her back, Cate has worn the same red-carpet gown twice.

The 51-year-old actress recycled a dramatic Armani Prive dress she first wore in 2014 to the Golden Globes and dusted it off again for the equally glamorous Cannes Film Festival in 2018.

She said: “From couture to T-shirts, landfills are filled with garments that have been unnecessarily discarded.” Too right!

Kate Middleton – 5yrs

Duchess of Cambridge: She hasn’t gained the nickname The Royal Recycler for nothing.

Kate, 38, constantly re-wears her favourite frocks, but her LK Bennett coat seems to be her top item as she has been seen in it four times in the space of five years.

It was first worn to a Unicef event in Denmark in 2011, then a rugby match in Wales in 2012, followed by Armistice Day in 2013 and lastly in 2016 on a trip to the RAF’s search and rescue base in Anglesey.

Kirsten Dunst – 10yrs

Kirsten Dunst: We’ve all got a pair of shoes that we just can’t get enough of, and actress Kirsten is no different.

The 38-year old Virgin Suicides star has worn her black satin Christian Lacroix shoes seven times over a decade.

Their first outing was in 2007 at the Met Gala, then at a Spider-Man premier in 2008, the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, Paris Fashion Week in 2017 and all the years in between.

Laura Dern – 25yrs

Laura Dern: A little black dress is a style staple and the US actress has made hers last a quarter of a century.

Laura, 53, who stars in Big Little Lies, first wore her custom-made Giorgio Armani dress to a charity gala in 1995.

Years later she wore it to the 2013 Vanity Fair Oscars party, then this year she wore the same frock to the same party, proving a good dress never goes out of style.
