Like Amanda Holden and Davina McCall, find the best workout gear to suit your shape

REFRESH your gym bag with a new kit to suit your shape.

Online sportswear searches have shot up 43 per cent over the past month, according to shopping app goxip.com – because let’s face it, our Zoom gear just won’t cut it on the treadmill.

But we all know the struggle when it comes to finding gear that ticks all the boxes, ensuring that it is figure-flattering as well as fit for purpose.

Luckily, celebrities have done all of the hard work for us, as their sweaty sessions shared on social media have allowed us all to admire their stylish workout wardrobe.

From short co-ords for petites to bold bras for pears, you can hit the ground running with styles that perform well and suit your shape.

Here, Siobhan O’Connor shows you how to look cool while feeling the burn, with High Street matches for the celebs’ looks that are all under £50.

Rectangular like Davina McCall

FOLLOW in the footsteps of fitness fanatic Davina McCall by opting for the same shade all over.

Don’t be afraid to show off your tum – and team your bra with high-waisted leggings for extra support and coverage.

Bright colours are very good at emphasising your curves, while showing off your midriff will create a waist.

If wearing one hue is daunting, stick to primary colours or darker shades to ease yourself in. One thing we can all learn from presenter Davina, 52, is that you can look red hot in gym gear, no matter your age.

Petite like Leigh-Anne Pinnock

IF you are on the shorter side, crop your lengths, like 5ft 3in Leigh-Anne Pinnock, 28.

Short shorts are great at making your pins look like they go on forever, and showing off more leg and a slither of waist made the Little Mix singer appear a lot taller.

With cycling shorts peddling their way into everyday wear too, you can get away with wearing this off-duty.

Stick to a matching co-ord in the same shade as one hue head-to-toe makes your body appear longer.

Apple like Serena Williams

BE a good sport in a tennis skirt, just like Serena Williams.

The 38-year-old US champ showed that it’s not just for centre court by wearing a Nike striped style for a cardio workout shared on TikTok.

The flared-from-the-waist style is a great go-to for apple shapes and will cover tummy woes without any clinginess.

You can team this with a full-coverage vest in a contrasting colour to distract the eyes when it comes to your middle area.

With hot pants underneath, you will smash it.

Pear like Rosie Wicks

BODY Coach Joe Wicks may have got the nation moving with his online PE lessons, but it was his wife Rosie stole the limelight.

Viewers just could not get enough of the 29-year-old former Page 3 girl’s bright, body-hugging gear – and her uniform is the perfect option to flatter pear shapes.

A colourful bra immediately draws attraction to top half and takes the attention off the bottom.

Pair with dark leggings, as this is not only a slimming colour – but will take the focus off your bum and legs.

Orange bra, £20, M&S, navy leggings, £10.99, New Look.

Curvy like Christine McGuinness

FITNESS gear is not just for breaking a sweat in – it needs to be good enough to be seen out and about in.

Model Christine McGuinness, 32, shows off her curves by pairing high-waisted leggings with a cropped jumper. This waist-skimming length means the eye is drawn to your smallest asset.

A good option for chucking on over your sports bra.

Emphasises your curvy silhouette instead of trying to hide it under baggy fits – this will only make you look bigger.

Blue cropped jumper, £12.99, New Look; green mesh leggings, £24.99, zalando.co.uk.

TIME TO GO BACK TO THE GYM…

GYMS are reopening, which means access to all that equipment you’ve missed in lockdown.

But before you dive straight back into your old routine, Fitness Editor Jenny Francis has some tips . . .

START SHORT: Don’t get too over-excited and fire in with a two-hour session or you’ll wake up feeling so exhausted the next day you won’t want to return for a week. Start back with 45 minutes max to ease yourself back in.

WARM UP: You should always do a warm-up before workouts, but add an extra five minutes to your usual routine.

Your body isn’t used to lifting weights or working out intensely so warming up the muscles properly is key to avoid injury and to get the most out of your session.

LIFT LIGHT: Instead of rushing over to your usual dumbbell weights, step it down a kilogram or two for the first week at least.

Your muscles will be slightly weaker but so will your joints and tendons so avoid injury by lifting that little bit lighter.

ARRIVE READY: Turn up to the gym in your kit fully ready to workout to avoid having to change while there.

Most changing rooms will be open, but because of Covid, they should only be used if swimming or if 100 per cent necessary.

BE FLEXIBLE: It is likely that not all the equipment will be in use now social distance rules are in.

So instead of turning up with a rigid workout plan, have alternatives ready so you don’t waste time wandering around thinking what to do because the treadmill is in use.

EAT WELL: Your body will likely not be used to an intense or weight-focused workout, so to avoid muscle soreness the next day, make sure you eat a protein-rich meal after training. And drink lots more water than usual to keep hydrated.

Lithe like Amanda Holden

MAKING your kit fun with patterns will make you more likely to want to put it on. Telly star Amanda Holden, 49, is a fan of busy prints and matching full-coverage tops.

Look for co-ords that have a contrast between pattern and colour, as this will break up your shape.

A bright pattern may seem daunting, but is actually super flattering – as shown by Amanda.

Long legs can pull off three-quarter length leggings with ease, too.

Hourglass like Olivia Bowen

THERE have been more than 6,000 searches for bodysuits in the past month, according to fashion and beauty search platform Goxip.com.

Celebrity fans include Love Island’s Olivia Bowen, 26.

Though they can seem a little daring, they are perfect for showing off a curvy silhouette.

Pick darker shades as these are slimming with low-necklines to draw the attention up. Just stick to less sweaty classes like yoga.

Big bust like Ashley Graham

YOU often have to fight your way into a sports bra, so make it a little bit easier with a zip-up style.

Model Ashley Graham, 32, shared a video of her workout on Instagram – and her 38D boobs were the least of her worries thanks to a supportive, longline bra with zip-up front.

Body-hugging fits are perfect for upbeat workouts. Look for styles with higher coverage as this will ensure you are supported for bouncing activities.

Zip-up bra, £17.99, H&M, Patterned bra, £25, M&S
