IT’S no secret that the royal women have a serious impact on the fashion industry with the Kate and Meghan effect in full force.
And it seems that brides-to-be are now keen to emulate the Duchess of Sussex’s engagement ring, according to one antiques dealer.
Matty Weldon of Courtville Antiques says women are keen to copy Meghan Markle’s “unique” old fashioned diamond when it comes to their own proposals.
Speaking to Her, he said: "Meghan’s ring is an antique cushion cut diamond.
“Where modern stones are cut broadly in the same way, each cushion cut diamond is totally bespoke and individually crafted for maximum brilliance
"This is what people want when they are buying an engagement ring – something no-one else has with its own exclusive shape and magical charm."
The cushion cut diamond shape has been around for several hundred years and typically combines a square cut with rounded corners, much like a pillow.
Mr Weldon added that Meghan’s ring is gold, rather than silver, platinum or white gold as popular modern rings normally are.
He says that this has also had an influence as people are now “revamping” antique pieces, going back to gold for a touch of “nostalgia.”
Prince Harry popped the question in November 2017, presenting her with a ring he had designed himself.
It originally had a gold pave band and featured two diamonds from the late Princess Diana’s collection as well as one sourced by Harry himself in Botswana.
The rock is estimated to have cost £122,500.
Meghan has since "blinged up" the ring, having the original gold band replaced with a much thinner, diamond-studded micro-pave gold band.
During the couple's engagement interview, Harry revealed he had specifically chosen a gold band for Meghan's original ring based on her jewellery collection.
He said: "The ring is obviously yellow gold because that's her favourite and the main stone itself I sourced from Botswana and the little diamonds either side are from my mother's jewellery collection, to make sure she's with us on this crazy journey together."
