Autumn tends to lend itself to all things spiced, whether thats cakes, drinks or scented candles.

One such spiced treat is Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Latte, which typically comes out in the first week of September in the UK.

With pumpkin spice syrup, Starbucks espresso, whipped cream and a spiced topping the Pumpkin Spice Latte is a definite autumn staple.

The coffee giant has yet to announce when their iconic autumn drink will return this year, but fret not! You can give your own a go at home.

There are a number of ways you can replicate the treat at home.

One is to visit the Amazon site and search for pumpkin spice syrup, and several different options will pop up.

There are even sugar free options if a sugar filled syrup does not appeal.

Another way is to go the whole hog and make your own from scratch with a few ingredients.

Method

The method for making your own pumpkin spice latte depends on your coffee making method.

If you have a pod coffee machine, you can make your latte and add the ingredients to it as below.

If you’re making from scratch, you will need 30ml of coffee, either instant or espresso depending on your preference.

First, place two teaspoons of pumpkin purée into a large heatproof glass.

Next add a pinch each of cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg.

If you prefer a sweeter drink you can add sugar or sweetener at this stage. Then stir in a 30ml espresso coffee shot.

To create the thicker milk for a latte, heat 250ml milk of your choice in a saucepan until steaming and frothed.

You can also buy milk frothers to speed up the process, which you need only heat the milk and then use a tool to froth it up.

If using clove, you can infuse it with the milk at this stage. Just remember to remove the buds before pouring.

Pour the hot milk into the heatproof glass or mug and top with froth.

Then stir to combine all the elements, making sure there are no lumps of spice or pumpkin puree.

Finally, dust with more cinnamon before drinking.

If you want an extra indulgent treat, add whipped cream before adding the extra spices.
