Mum makes amazing chocolate orange cake in slow cooker using Fanta

A mum has found a way to make a tasty treat without too much fuss.

Susan Talbot created the chocolate orange cake using her slow cooker, meaning she could leave it cook while she got on with the rest of her day.

To make the cake, she mixed together chocolate cake mix, but instead of using the recommended eggs and oil, she added Fanta, to make the cake rise as well as giving it an orange taste.

To really amp up the flavour, she added some orange extract.

Once the cake had cooked, she decorated with Cadbury’s icing, a Terry’s Chocolate Orange and some Orange Matchmakers, but of course that’s all optional.

Posting on the Crockpot / Slow Cooker Recipes & Tips Facebook group.

She explains: ‘Mix the Betty Crocker Cake Mix with Two Small Cans of Fanta (150ml each) and one teaspoon orange extract.

‘Put a big cake case in the slow cooker. I use a cake tin and a cake liner to keep shape.

‘Pour the mix into the cake case. Turn the slow cooker onto high for 1 hour 1/2 – 2 hrs 15mins cooking time varies on your slow cooker so I always check after 1 1/2 hrs.

‘Make sure you put a tea towel in between the lid and the slow cooker.

‘When cooked, allow the cake to cool down, remove it from the slow cooker and then decorate!’

She also added a few tips to ensure that any bakers get the perfect cake.

‘There is no need for eggs or oil! Just use the cake mix and Fanta. You don’t need to preheat the slow cooker, you turn it onto high after the cake mix is in it!

‘You also don’t need to put anything in the bottom of the slow cooker, just the cake case!’

Susan said that it creates a delicious moist cake and other people on the group were excited to try the idea out.

One said: ‘Looks yummy must try it out thanks for the tip.’

‘Thank you for sharing I’m definitely trying this,’ another added.
