Sweet potato fries recipe: How to make sweet potato fries

Sweet potato fries are a tasty addition to nearly any dinner. They take just half an hour to cook, and they’re super easy to make. Fancy adding them as a side next to your homemade burger, or maybe they’d go well with your chilli con carne? Express.co.uk talks you through BBC Good Food’s sweet potato fries recipe.

Ingredients

For the fries

  • 2 medium sweet potatoes
  • 2 tsp plain flour
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 3 tbsp olive oil

For the topping

  • Grated cheese (cheddar, mozarella, parmesan…)

Method

Step one

Preheat your oven to 200C.

Step two

Wash and peel your sweet potatoes using a potato peeler.

Cut the potatoes into sticks around 1cm by 1cm wide.

Lay them flat on a baking tray and drizzle over the olive oil.

Toss the sweet potatoes until all the sticks are evenly coated with oil

Step three

Mix together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt and ground black pepper in a small bowl.

Sprinkle the seasoning over the sweet potatoes, making sure every potato is coated.

Lightly toss with your hands to cover every single one with the seasoning.

Step four

Adding the flour helps crisp up the fries, so don’t leave it out unless you want soggy fries!

Line up the potatoes on the baking tray and bake for 18 minutes.

Then, give the tray a toss to flip the fries over.

Put the fries back in the oven to bake for 5 more minutes.

Step five

Transfer the fries to a oven safe dish and top with the grated cheese.

Return to oven on the highest rack for 3 minutes to melt the cheese.

If not, serve the fries whilst hot to ensure maximum crispness.

Let the fries cool for a couple of minutes and serve on a plate.
