There are reports almost daily about a royal family feud between Prince William and Prince Harry. While the public may never know how much of what’s been put out there is actually true, many have concluded that Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, has had some a part in what happened between the brothers.
We know that for a time it seemed like the Duchess of Sussex had a good relationship with her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, but we never hear much about how she got along with her brother-in-law. Here’s more on what Prince William and Markle‘s relationship has been like since she’s been with Harry and where things stand today.
Prince William had concerns and wasn’t welcoming
While royal fans noticed that the princes’ relationship really changed after Harry and Markle tied the knot, they reportedly had a falling out before that because William voiced concerns and wasn’t welcoming towards the former actress.
“The biggest cause of their so-called rift was Wills tried to warn Harry when he met Meghan not to rush into it — they’d only known each other less than a year before they decided to get engaged,” journalist Carole Malone Malone said. “He sat him down and just told him to take it slow and not to run into it.”
There are claims that Harry went “ballistic” after that and accused William of trying to wreck his relationship.
“It was largely down to Harry resenting his brother. Harry supported his brother from the outset with Kate and he felt very let down that he wasn’t getting his brother’s full, 100% support with his relationship with Meghan and things changed,” royal author Katie Nicholl explained.
The snub seen round the world
The internet was buzzing after a video of the royal family outside of a church back on Christmas Day made the rounds. It showed what some thought was Prince William intentionally snubbing Markle.
At the very beginning of the clip, William is seen adjusting his scarf and looking directly at the Duchess of Sussex who appears to try and speak to him. However, he doesn’t offer any reaction or acknowledgment that she is about to say something. Markle then turned away and looked a bit stunned after that, leading many to believe William was ignoring her.
Of course, there were plenty of different conclusions drawn about what was going on in the video. However, many royal fans point to it as evidence that William made it known then that he doesn’t have time for his brother’s wife.
What their relationship is like today
In the past, the royals have always tried their best to keep up appearances but with the 24-hour media cycle and everyone’s use of social media, the princes have now resorted to avoiding each other.
According to the Daily Mail, things still aren’t good between them and William and Middleton deliberately delayed their annual trip to Balmoral, Scotland, in order to avoid seeing Harry and Markle.
According to a source, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also weren’t too pleased with the Duke of Sussex’s recent remarks about how many children he and Markle plan on having. Harry’s comment that they want no more than two children in order to be kinder to the environment reportedly rubbed William and Middleton, who already have three children, the wrong way.
On Aug. 27, Hello Magazine noted the future king and his wife officially removed Markle and Harry’s names from their charity title. The organization is now called “The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.”
