Here's When 'Moon Knight' Takes Place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

TL;DR:

  • Disney+ revealed when Moon Knight takes place in the MCU timeline.
  • The Oscar Isaac-led show is set after another Disney+ series.
  • What does Moon Knight‘s placement tell us?

Moon Knight has officially made its debut, and although the Disney+ series has yet to connect to the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s only a matter of time. Oscar Isaac’s first outing as the titular hero will set up his origin story. However, there’s a good chance Marvel will bring him into future projects — especially if this one does well. So, when exactly does Moon Knight take place in the MCU timeline? Disney+ gives us an idea.

When is ‘Moon Knight’ set in the MCU?

With Moon Knight likely to connect to the greater MCU, many fans are wondering when it takes place in the grand scheme of things. The timeline for Phase 4 has admittedly been a little all over the place, especially with the recent multiverse shenanigans. But thanks to Disney+ (via TheDirect), we know when Steven Grant’s (Oscar Isaac) story is unfolding.

According to the streaming service, which features a section that puts the MCU projects in timeline order, Moon Knight takes place after Hawkeye. Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) and Kate Bishop’s (Hailee Steinfeld) adventure was set in December 2024, making it Marvel’s most recent story — until now.

‘Moon Knight’ takes place after every recent Marvel project

If Moon Knight takes place after everything that went down in Hawkeye, that sets it ahead of all the Marvel projects that have come out recently. After all, Hawkeye occurs after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, and Eternals.

With that in mind, the franchise’s larger-scale events are already underway when Moon Knight kicks off. With Isaac’s character living in England, he’s away from much of the chaos set in the United States. However, he should have witnessed some of the happenings of Eternals.

Still, since the new show makes no mention of Marvel’s previous works, it does make sense that it’s occuring after them all.

The Disney+ show’s placement in the MCU makes sense

Although fans may be surprised to learn that Moon Knight takes place when all the other recent Marvel projects have concluded, that actually makes a lot of sense. After all, the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home would hardly escape notice, even for those living halfway across the world. For Steven Grant and Marc Spector to be operating as usual, such things must have ended already.

The real question is when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be set compared to Moon Knight and Marvel’s other projects. Benedict Cumberbatch’s next outing as Stephen Strange is sure to be on a similar scale to Spider-Man: No Way Home. If it’s set near Moon Knight’s story, it’s hard to see the hero not getting dragged into it — or at the very least impacted by it.

We’ll have to wait and see how Phase 4 comes together. But for now, Disney+ gives us some idea of how Moon Knight fits into the bigger picture. The series premiere is currently streaming on the platform.
