The advert, which was posted on Sunday, begins with Kevin flying a jet, accompanied by wingman Lieutenant Turkey.

Kevin appears at ease at the controls, showing off with some fancy flying and even upturning the aircraft as he encounters Father Christmas high above a snowy mountain range.

Lieutenant Turkey then explains he is ‘roasting’ and goes to open a window. But instead, he accidentally presses the eject button and Kevin is promptly forced from the cockpit, shouting ‘No, Turkey!’

The short clip finishes with the terrified carrot shouting for help as he parachutes through the sky while the hashtag  ‘#WhereisKevin’ flashes across the screen.

Kevin’s appearance in the advert marks the fifth year that the iconic character has featured in Aldi’s Christmas campaign and social media users were overjoyed with his return.

‘This has made my day, so glad to see Kevin The Carrot back,’ another impressed fan wrote on Facebook.

The release date for Top Gun Maverick, the second film in the franchise, has been pushed back by a year amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Tom Cruise returns as Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, along with Val Kilmer as Iceman, with new cast members including Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller and Ed Harris, in the sequel to the iconic 1986 blockbuster.

Last year, Aldi’s Christmas advert saw Kevin flee from the clutches of new characters the ‘Leafy Blinders’ – and put on an extraordinary Greatest Showman inspired Christmas show set to a festive edition of Robbie Williams hit Let Me Entertain You.

The group of sprouts – wearing tweed caps much like the characters in TV series Peaky Blinders – were seen shouting at Kevin in the street, as he struggled while tied to a cheese grater.

Russell Sprout then sent Tiny Tom, a tomato, toward Kevin – who helped him get free by gnawing through the ropes, allowing the carrot to run away from the angry mob.

The vegetable then ran over to a lit up big top, which was already bursting with cheering audience members, and started his show.
