Kate Middleton makes surprise appearance at Wimbledon

The Duchess of Cambridge put on a stylish display as she made a surprise appearance at Wimbledon on Tuesday.

Kate, 37, opted for a sleek white custom-made Suzannah shirt dress with a small bow and a slender Alexander McQueen belt, turning heads as she made her way to her seat this morning.

The royal looked in excellent spirits as she took her place on Court 14 on day two of the tennis tournament, which will see players including Serena Williams and Roger Federer take to the court.

The Duchess looked deep in concentration as she watched British player Harriet Dart, 22, ranked 157th in the world, take on American Christina McHale, with the homegrown hopeful leading two sets to one by the time Kate moved on to Centre Court to take her seat in the Royal Box. 

Opting for a monochrome theme in line with the spirit of the day, Kate coordinated her chic frock with a small basket box bag, also by McQueen, along with black court shoes, completing her look with a pair of sunglasses.

Keeping her accessories to a minimum, Kate rocked a smokey eye and drop earrings, and was spotted giggling as she sat alongside British tennis player pals Katie Boulter and Anne Keothavong.

Kate previously wore a dress by designer Suzannah in 2014, and day dresses by the brand cost as much as £2,350. 

Kate, patron of the Lawn Tennis Association, is a huge fan and broke her maternity leave following the birth of Prince Louis last year to attend one of her favourite annual events. 

A the time, the Duchess attended the tennis alongside Meghan, who is not thought to be attending this year as she is currently on maternity leave after welcoming baby Archie with Prince Harry in May.

Kate’s appearance today comes just a day after teenager Cori ‘Coco’ Gauff, 15, claimed victory against seven-time Grand Slam singles winner Venus Williams, 39, on No. 1 court today – less than a week after finishing her exams. 

She beat the tennis legend, who had won four of her Grand Slam titles before she was even born, winning 6-4 6-4. 

Today Serena Williams, close pal to Meghan, will renew her bid for her 24th Grand Slam title and eighth at Wimbledon with a Centre Court match against Giulia Gatto-Monticone of Italy.

Williams lost in the final at the All England Club to Angelique Kerber last year.

Kerber opens Tuesday’s first-round action in the main stadium against Tatjana Maria.

Meanwhile eight-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer then follows against Lloyd Harris.

The first match on No. 1 Court will be Ash Barty’s first match since she became ranked No. 1. The French Open champion faces Zheng Saisai.

Rafael Nadal will take on Yuichi Sugita later in the day in that arena, and with Watson and Edmund winning on Monday, the attention will turn to the other eight Brits in action on day two. 

British number one Konta kicks off her championships against Ana Bogdan of Romania, second on Court One. 

Elsewhere Katie Swan meets Laura Siegemund of Germany and Harriet Dart is up against American Christina McHale. 

Of the British men in action Cameron Norrie plays Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan, Dan Evans faces Argentinian Federico Delbonis, James Ward meets Georgia’s Nikoloz Basilashvili and Jay Clarke takes on American Noah Rubin. 

In the evening all eyes will be on Paul Jubb, the 19-year-old from Hull who won the prestigious NCAA singles title, when he tackles Joao Sousa of Portugal.
