Lisa Vanderpump Temporarily Stops Filming 'Vanderpump Rules' After the Death of Her Mother

Lisa Vanderpump’s mother Jean Vanderpump has died. The 84-year-old passed away June 17 in England. An insider told Page Six that she died as a result of a brain embolism.

The loss comes just over a year after the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star’s brother Mark died following a suspected overdose. His death was later ruled a suicide. Vanderpump has not commented on her mother’s passing, though she did retweet a message of condolence from one of her fans.

She’s taking a break from Vanderpump Rules

A rep for Vanderpump confirmed to US Weekly that the reality star was taking a break from filming her show Vanderpump Rules in the wake of her mother’s death. Season 8 of the Bravo show began production several weeks ago, according to Brittany Cartwright.

“She requested privacy at this time while she prepares for her trip back home to England to deal with the funeral,” a close friend of Vanderpump told the magazine.

Unsurprisingly, Vanderpump is “shocked and devastated” about her mother’s death, according to a family member who spoke to US Weekly.

The death of her mother follows a particularly difficult year for the 58-year-old. Her older brother Mark’s death in April 2018 was a serious blow, and she’s spoken about how the loss of her only sibling affected her.

“It’s still so fresh,” she said in an episode of RHOBH that aired earlier this year. “My brother was kind of my partner in crime growing up, but we did use to torture each other all the time. Whatever happened, it was just the two of us.”

“I’m a strong woman. I can cope. But I was never prepared for this. And it’s been very difficult. Very difficult,” she added.

The restaurateur went on to say that she did believe Mark intended to take his own life.

“I know my brother well enough to know my brother didn’t mean to do this,” she said. “It was a cry for help that went horribly wrong.”

Stepping away from Housewives

Though Vanderpump attempted to continue with both of her shows after her brother’s death, she eventually made the decision to step away from Housewives, saying that she didn’t want to deal with all the drama from the other women.

“I made the decision to leave. It was a very difficult year for me, personally and professionally. I had wonderful things happen this year, opening up and TomTom and the cocktail garden in Vegas. The Housewives, it’s just, it’s emotionally too difficult to deal with,” she told US Weekly in early June.

In the past, Vanderpump has said that she’s turned to work to help her get through difficult times.

“[Work] is the best distraction,” said Vanderpump, who’s newest restaurant, Vanderpump Cocktail Garden in Las Vegas, opened this spring. “It’s just that every time someone brings [Mark’s death] up, I feel more emotional,” she said. “I’ve managed to compartmentalize it and put it down to a horrible time in my life and moving on.”
