If you’re looking to propose, you probably shouldn’t take a leaf out of this man’s book.

The bloke thought it was a romantic idea to write “MARRY ME” inside his copy of novel The Fault in Our Stars.

He also took the time to highlight a quote with bright yellow pen.

But while the bride might have thought it was a sweet idea, wedding shamers weren’t impressed with his efforts.

They trolled him for “massacring” the book, with one Facebook user writing: “As I book lover I’d be annoyed if someone ruined a book like that”.

Others pointed out that the novel is a pretty tragic one to choose.

What’s more, the chap accidentally circled the word “cancer” on one of the pages.

According to 7news, a commenter remarked: “This is also horrible, it’s a complete waste, it’s tacky and why on earth is the ring circling the word cancer?”

And another said: “This is horrifying. Not just the disrespect to that book but also framed around the word cancer. Come on.”

While many thought it was an offensive way to propose, some liked the idea.

A Facebook user said: “I’m an author and I would love if someone hacked apart one of my books to do something romantic.

“We all want to have people love our books!”

Another commented: “I’m a book lover and I think this is great and adorable.”

And a third added: “It may be one of her favourite books and that’s part of her favourite chapter.”
