The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has been challenging for everyone, but Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex just reflected on how it provided them with an opportunity for precious family time. In fact, they believe they would have missed a lot of Archie’s “firsts” had things been normal.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were there for all of Archie’s milestones
During a video call with activist Malala Yousafzai for International Day Of The Girl, Prince Harry and Meghan shared one of the silver linings of being in quarantine. The couple really got to enjoy some quality time with their son Archie, including witnessing all of his milestones that they might have missed had they been traveling.
When the couple was asked how they are spending their time during COVID, Prince Harry joked “on Zoom,” before Meghan noted how they have been “with our little one” during the pandemic. “We were both there for his first steps, his first run, his first fall, his first everything,” Harry noted.
Meghan called the time “fantastic” because they may not have seen all of those “firsts” had they been able to travel for work.
“It’s just fantastic because I think in so many ways we were fortunate to be able to have this time to watch him grow and in the absence of COVID we would be traveling and working more externally and we’d miss a lot of those moments,” she explained.
“So I think it’s been a lot of really good family time,” she added.
Meghan also share the way they are raising Archie “where everything about his nourishment is about educational substance and how you can learn and how you can grow.”
Prince Harry addressed the mental health concerns of the pandemic
Even though the Sussexes found that their time together has been priceless, Prince Harry did acknowledge how trying the global health situation has been.
“Those are really special moments [with Archie] but at the same time as Meghan says, we’ve been working really, really hard because we completely understand and get how challenging this is for absolutely everyone and I think the longer it goes on for, the more it’s going to be felt, obviously, especially from a mental health aspect,” he said.
Prince Harry added, “So this is a really unifying moment to bring everybody together and just acknowledge what everyone has been through. This traumatic experience wherever you are in the world.”
Baby Archie is ‘busy’ these days
In addition to revealing all of the “firsts” they got to share as a family, Meghan explained during an interview with the Evening Standard how their little one “keeps us on our toes.”
At 17-months-old, Archie is definitely on the move, Meghan told the Evening Standard. “[Archie] is so good. We are very lucky with our little one. He is just so busy, he is all over the place. He keeps us on our toes. We are just so lucky.”
Royal expert Omid Scobie, who co-wrote the book Finding Freedom about Prince Harry and Meghan, had shared how Archie could sometimes be seen during the couple’s Zoom calls.
“I loved discovering [Harry and Meghan’s] daily Zoom calls with the various initiatives and people that they work with,” Scobie shared during The HeirPod podcast. “And how Archie is no stranger to climbing in front of the web camera and making little impromptu cameos.”
