Hotel guest finds strange item after checking in – and ends up with very generous reward | The Sun

A HOTEL guest has revealed the shocking item he found in the wardrobe of his hotel.

When holidaymakers check in to their hotels they expect to find them clean and tidy, and empty of things from the guest before them.

One man hit the jackpot when he opened the wardrobe door of his hotel room.

In a post on Quora, the man asked other travellers if they'd ever found something unexpected in their hotel rooms before divulging his own unusual find.

He wrote: "I live in Las Vegas and I will take random staycations in hotels during the year.

"As I was putting my stuff away in the closet, a bag fell to the floor where the extra pillows are kept.

"Inside the bag was an unmarked bank deposit bag with almost $45,000 [£36,325] of cash."

The man explained that he called security who filed a report and called the police.

He added: "I was told that the hotel needs to hold it for 30 days and see if the owner claims it, afterwards it can be claimed by me."

Even though hotel staff and police made efforts to contact previous holidaymakers, who'd stayed in the same room, no one came forward.

This meant the cash could be claimed by this very fortuitous holidaymaker.

He even shared some of the cash, saying he started a small charity and donated $2,000 (£1,613) of it.

In the comment section of the thread, he wrote: "I collected crayons and colouring books for people in cancer treatment centres and hospitals.

"I know how it is being a patient in those centres and I want to help others."

Users were quick to praise the man for his honest actions.

One wrote: "Kudos to you for notifying the hotel and police."

While another added: "You did the right thing and lucked out."

It's not often that guests find items after they've checked into their hotel rooms.

Many holidaymakers often pinch an item or two before they leave.

Holidaymakers are most likely to to take shampoo and conditioner from hotel rooms because the mini toiletries are often complimentary..

Several guests have revealed that they also take hotel slippers, dressing gowns, coffee capsules, towels and even decorative items.
