Originally built in the 15th century, Ayrshire Castle in Scotland is now open to guests, with dates still available over Halloween, if you're quick.

The castle was built as a wedding present for Princess Mary, the eldest daughter of James II of Scotland.

Now, the 600-year-old castle welcomes guests, and is just 20 miles from Glasgow Prestwick Airport.

Inside the castle is a spiral stone staircase which connects the five floors – on the first floor is the Great Hall and kitchen, with five bedrooms and a sitting area on the levels above.

The rooms feature four poster beds and drapes, along with wood-burning stoves to keep you warm, and en-suite bathrooms.

One of the most terrifying features inside is the ‘murder hole’, which was was once used to pour hot oil over unwelcome visitors to the castle..

The pit prison is found behind a flagstone trap door, but isn't easy to find so guests will face a challenge.

Previous guests, including Ghost Hunters Scotland, confirmed its spooky past, with one telling a local newspaper something "transfigured its energy" onto them during a seance.

There are also spooky activities you can enjoy during your stay, including a trip to Alloway Auld Kirk to take part in a gathering of witches, with the location being mentioned in the famous Robert Burns poem Tam o' Shanter".

The property costs £2,193 for two nights, which can usually sleep up to 14 people.

However, with new rules enforced by the Scottish government only allowing one household, you can only have up to six adults, with kids under 11 not included in the restrictions.
