Love Island: Viewers question if Anna Vikali is plus size as islanders are slammed for wearing heels with bikinis

The new series of Love Island kicked off with viewers left less than impressed with the size of the islanders.

Ahead of the series launch many people had tipped Anna Vikali to be the plus size islander this series.

Even though Love Island producers had never stated Anna was plus size, she somehow gained the the title.

Viewers were left questioning if the 28 year old pharmacist was curvy enough for the show, with one person tweeting: "PLUS SIZE she literally has the PERFECT figure #Loveisland2019".

A second wrote: "How IS SHE PLUS SIZE ! #Loveisland2019", while a third simply said: "Wheres the plus size women? Anna is normal size."

After facing heavy criticism last year because of the lack of diversity, Love Island fans expected a dramatic u-turn in 2019.

While the current line-up has more people of colour than 2018’s offering, it still doesn’t feature any plus size women or men without toned physiques.

Love Island bosses defended the selection of gorgeous boys and girls ahead of the show launch, stating that primarily the point of the show is entertainment.

Love Island boss Richard Cowles told The Sun: “We try and be as representative and diverse as possible but first and foremost it’s an entertainment show.

“It’s about people wanting to watch and them reacting and falling in love with another.

“Yes, we want to be as representative as possible but we also want them to be attracted to one another.”

He continued: “I’m not saying everyone that’s in there is how you’re supposed to look, what we’re saying is they are a group of people we want to watch for eight weeks and we want to watch them fall in love.”

Another criticism of the islanders was aimed at the girls for wearing heels with their bikinis.

One viewer said: "Heels with a bikini?!?!?!? I’ll never understand it sorry.. #Loveisland2019".

While another added: "Why oh why do girls think they need to wear heels with swimwear. they going disco?"
