A food recall can be issued when a potential health or safety risk is found with an item. Sainsbury’s has shared a new warning for customers.

Love Your Veg Butternut Squash & Lentil Lasagne

The supermarket giant has shared a warning for its own-brand plant-based product.

This is because some batches contain a number of ingredients not listed on the packaging.

Affected batches contain milk, pork and beef which are not mentioned on the label.

This could cause a health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or meat items.

The error was made as some packs contained Sainsbury’s Bolognese Melt rather than the Butternut Squash and Lentil Lasagne.

A Sainsbury’s statement said: “It has been brought to our attention that packs of the above code of Sainsbury’s Love Your Veg Butternut Squash & Lentil Lasagne contain Sainsbury’s Bolognese Melt which contains milk, pork and beef that are not declared on the packaging.”

Customers should look out for batches with the best before date of July 17.

Sainsbury’s issued a precautionary recall of the product and urged those with an intolerance “not to eat” the item.

Anyone who has bought the item and has an allergy or intolerance can return it to stores.

They can take the item to the nearest Sainsbury’s store and will receive a full refund.

The statement continued: “For any concerns or questions regarding this, please check our website Sainsburys.co.uk/help or contact our Careline on 0800 636262.

“No other Sainsbury’s products have been affected by this issue.

“We would like to apologise for the inconvenience this may cause.”

Food recall warnings are not shared often but should be taken seriously by customers.

Supermarkets will also sometimes issue recalls on other products and Sainsbury’s put out a recent warning on cat food.

Sainsbury’s Hypoallergenic Recipe Complete Dry Cat Food

The products were as part of an investigation into possible safety issues affecting cats.

A statement said: “As a precautionary measure Sainsbury’s is voluntarily recalling all packs of by Sainsbury’s Hypoallergenic recipe complete dry cat food with chicken 1+ Years 800g and with salmon 1+ Years 800g.

“We are supporting an investigation by the the food and veterinary authorities into a possible safety issue affecting cats.

“We are not willing to take any risks where the safety of our products is concerned.

“So we are asking customers who have purchased these products not to use them and to return the item to their nearest Sainsbury’s store for a full refund when they next visit.”

Products can be withdrawn from shelves or recalled when a problem is found with them.
